long time between turns

When playing on the largest galaxy the wait between turns is quite long at times. It gets longer as the number of ships and constructors increase it seems. May I suggest that we may not need to see all ships advance one sector at a time! An option to allow ships to jump "X" number of spaces would speed the game up. Players may in fact prefer to see only the original position of the ship then see it jump to its destination point. Maybe it flashes bright or something when it jumps or creates a trail. Anything that would speed the game up would be a good idea. I have a dual processor PC with 4mb of memory.

A few things you can do to mitigate this. Most are options you can turn off too.

In the case of just seeing ships flying about causing slowdowns, go look at a corner of the map that your sensors don't reach, thus you can't see any action going on. That will give you a tremendous turn-speed increase. This one however will catch you when one of your ships finishes it's auto-pilot with movement remaining. That'll move you back to the ship and all that fun.

It is unfortunate that such a good game runs so darn slow. Is this not worthy of adressing, Stardock?

The turn processing itself is actually very fast - what takes the time is, as you say, it doing all of your ships autopilot moves one at a time. (Most foreign ship movement appears to be executed more or less simultaneously?)

I really noticed this in my most recent game where I had a fleet of 30 or so very fast ships set to auto explore all racing around the galaxy trying to hunt down the Korath's Ascension crystals. Once I found and dealt with it, I decommissioned the ships and turns turn over faster now.

I am playing against 8 civs on an immense map. I am trying to win by influence and therefore using losts of constructors to feed all my influence stations. The Krynn planets are hard to flip, so you need almost 4 influence stations per world to turn them fast enough. Plus I have quite a large fleet of warships and transports to move around. I don't intend to attack, I am just matching the size of the Krynn army so they leave me alone while my influence grows.

But the slow operation speed of this software is making me think that I should quit playing large maps. The problem is that I find smaller maps boring.

How about it Stardock, can you do anything to help ?

The only thing that will help - is your capacity for patience.

Spies may come in handy here. Shut down their influence buildings and their farms. Yes, I know, it's off-topic.

There are quite a few options inside the Game Options screen which limit the amount of echoing to screen of movement etc between turns - have you given those a go?

What cpu do you have ?
