Precursor ships

I started a new game with Mega-events off. About 25 turns into the game I get an announcement the Arceans found a precursor ship. When I checked out the ships stats it had 99 - 75 - 75 attack stats and 25 a piece in DEF. Where does this ship come from? Is it a Mega event that I thought I turned off? Is it an anamoly? I have never seen this before.

It's a normal random event aka it existed in the base Dread Lords game.

The A.I. just had it sitting on my border not entering my territory but just letting me know it was there. The Arceans got real ballsy with that ship. They kept demanding tribute in the thousands.

It blowed up real good.
I created a couple of Klingon Vor'cha class ships and took it down. After that the Arceans just started giving me money. Owned!

Given enough luck, Precursor ships seem to be given away with box tops - {G}.

Which would be great if the darn things weren't so *slow*!

Which brings up a logical question? Any way of modding the style of precursor ships that are available? I get Precursor Rangers somtimes and "Lucky" Rangers fairly consistently, but there really ought to be other ships out there? I'm sure it's a shipconfig function somewhere?
