trouble connecting

from Stardock Forums
i just installed multiplicity on my new computer which is a desk top running vista home premium 32 bit and i have also installed it on my old laptop which is running XP media center and i am not able to connect i even used the telnet to try and get a connection but it didnt work. and all the guide said was "please check network and sharing options" how do i do this and what do i change, how can i get this to work? thanks in advance

Sounds like your firewall is blocking access.
Open the port on both PCs and try to telnet again.

negative i was not able to. they are both connected to the network wired but im not even able to transfer files over the network or even view files on another computer when i try and browse a computer no the net work it asks me to log in but i don't have a login requirement and have never set up a password so i don't know what to do. maybe this has something to do with it? are there network setting i need to change?

multiplicity was detecting the secondary computer bow its not but windows network detects it but im not able to connect it maybe if someone didn't mind giving mt a step by step guide?

Try doing this from your primary:

telnet (ip_of_secondary) 30564

To enable telnet in Vista:

1. From the Start menu, click Control Panel.
2. Select Programs.
3. From the menu of the left, select Turn Windows Features On or Off.
4. Scroll down, and then check the "Telnet client" box.
5. Click OK.

Does this give you any kind of a response, or does it fail to connect? If you get the latter, it will be either because something is blocking communication over that port or because the Multiplicity service is not running on the secondary. For the most basic communication to occur, you will need the system tray icon (multipl.exe) running on the primary and the service (multisrv32.exe) running on the secondary. You will also need the system tray icon (multipl.exe) running on the secondary if you wish to have file sharing capabilities.

The services are accessible by going to Start->Run and typing services.msc
Look for the service named "Stardock Multiplicity"

-If the service is not started, start it.
-If you don't see the service in this list, run this file from within Internet explorer:
http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/reinstall_mpp_service.bat


If you're still having a problem at this point, please run this file on each of your computers from within Internet Explorer:
http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/enumerate_mpp_settings.bat
and send me the log file generated on each desktop

Sorry but same problem here, when I click troubleshooting it says "Multiplicity was able to connect to this machine without any problems" and the same when I telnet the secondary but the system Icon on the primary is allways black and says it has a problem with the protocols ...

I can't connect two Windows Server 2008 R2 machines, and the worst of all, I've never been ... I'm desperated!! I bought it a year ago and I can't use it!!

msproes: looking at the info from what you're saying is the secondary, it looks like it's configured as a primary machine, and the primary machine is setup as a primary, but has no secondary machines setup and configured.

So, I was having issues with multiplicity for the longest time, gave up for a while. Today I found this post and to my appreciation and suprise Pyro's suggestion worked. For some reason the laptop would not allow the service to run, even after uninstalling the program. So I followed the link, and walla it works.
