Soros makes a crappy case, the I would have defended his stance is by pointing out:
- 'correlation is not causation' indeed the allies were trying to impose democracy on Germany and Japan, but that does not mean that the people of either country chose democracy because the allies said to do so.
- unless you are being serious about it, imposing democracy can do the exact opposite, see Vietnam for an example of this.

(and no I don't actually agree Soros's stance on this issue)
