Planetary Allegiance Building

Why do they hate me so?

I'm just getting the hang of the different races and one thing that has hit me more than once is a planet where the allegiance level has slowly dropped to critical levels.  What's the best way for each race to maintain control of their planets?

For example, when playing as Advent, I've made sure that I've explored the planet, increased the population level to the top for the planet, added emergency facilities and then added all of the protective orbiting platforms necassary to protec the planet while I go after the next link.

For 80% or so of my held planets, theis is all that I need to keep the allegiance above 70%.  For some, however, the number just continues to drop no matter what I do.

Thanks for any tips.

Culture man. Culture bumps up the allegiance.

Alternately, enemy culture degrades it, so if it's actually dropping, that's the likely cause. Build your own culture orbitals to beat it back. Having culture of your own can also improve the level beyond the cap (each hop from your capital has a lower max allegiance).

Also, be aware that for every jump away from your capital planet, the planet loses 10% allegiance, so your capital has 100% (without any culture, full culture coverage adds 10%) a planet one jump away has 90%, two is 80%, three is 70% etc. Jumps between stars on multi star systems only count as one jump.

However, the allegiance is actually going down, i.e. degrading over time, then that means your opponent's culture is overwhelming yours or else you don't have any culture there. You can either make a culture obrital of your own to beat it back as Kryo said, or else use your capital ships to repel it. Just be aware that your caps only repel enemy culture, you can't expand your own with it. So often it is best to get your own culture up not only to hold their's back, but also to give yourself the allegiance bonus.

yeah, culture also effects how much cash comes in and how much crystal and metal.

if the planet has 100% allegence, then it gets 100% of its possible cash and resources
if the planet has 90% allegence, then it gets 90% of its possible cash and resources

and so on...

Look at the colour of the phase lines between planets. This gives a visual clue of how far each players culture has spread.

Allegiance cannot be brought up past certain levels.

The first rule for allegiance is how far it's from your homeworld.

Homeworld = 100%
1 jump away = 90%
2 jump away = 80%
3 jump away = 70%
4 jump away = 55%
5 jump away = 40%
6+ jump away = 25%
Anything accessible only by black hole = 25%

After that, you can get culture centers, broadcast centers, whatever they're called. These will raise your allegiance 10%.

Advent also have a tech that can raise allegiance and additional +5 and +10, but it's a tier 8 civic tech and should only be used by a massive advent empire.

I don't know how allegiance works when jumping through stars

Two hops. If your homeworld is directly connected to a star via phase lane and you own a planet at another star connected by its phase lane, it's two phase-lanes distant so you'll get 80%.
