TotA map editor

Suggestion

First, I'd like to say the map editor in TotA is great!  However, I find that trying to create a big map of 8x8 sectors or bigger is a bit of a huge undertaking.  I know they include random generators, but I find the randomness not so random, and end up having to randomize in another fashion.  It would be really cool if they would include a map export from the game itself, becuase the random map generator in game is pretty good.  That way, one could edit any map they found good to play on.  What's more, they could add a custom map feature, like a number that could dictate how many, on average, stars were genned per sector, planets per star, habitable planets per sector, or the like.  Any one else like this idea?

I agree completely.

Also, it would be nice if it could do more to edit the planets, such as placing bonus tiles, etc.

I entirely agree also with the need to have an in-game map 'grabbing tool' to use later on.

But, there are a number of other issues with the Map Editor which i believe should get fixed with the next update;

- I very very much need a truly powerful & versatile spreadsheet to edit the huge amount of values & data fields.
- The stars coloring schema is scrambled.
- I'd prefer a backdrop without an intrusive blue nebulae. Better yet, give us optional versions or the ability to load up our own png image straight into it!
- Break the edge 3 parsecs limit to allow placement of a star in these regions too.
- Auto-dropping of the default Colony_Miner_Surveyor fleet near a homeworld.
- Show me the colored Influence territories, range spheres overlay for anything, resources data (distance from point X or Y, might become handy).
- A random option to allow for the Homeworlds to be relocated among active races once a game is being setup. (Indirectly, we can do this... but it ISN'T obvious or how it could really be)
- Minors? Why not!
- Etc, Etc...

And, most importantly to me;

- Make this thingy fully compatible with any Modded custom planets file! I do have plenty of specific systems pre-defined with **wanted** planets (already named, sized, with Moon or Ring!) quality and textures which cannot be simply used as is in the Map editor. Which is very annoying.
