resume LAN game?

Hello, this might be a noobie and/or solution that is possibly posted.  How do I resume a saved LAN game with a friend?  I was the original host and we both saved the game.  I tried the Load game option and game starts up fine, but what does my friend have to do on his end?  When he tries to join, it tells him that the game is full.  Any help is appreciated.

I'm presuming that you're letting him join the game before you're starting it?

Well thing is, I host the saved game and I see no slot for him.

You mean there isn't even an AI player taking up his slot?
