WB 6.1 Not applying skins

Hope someone can help - I've been battling with this all day.  I bought the Object Desktop Upgrade today and have had a terrible time getting things to install and work correctly - I finally got everything installed - and the WindowBlinds UI is displaying correctly instead of being all black - but it still won't apply a theme.  It did the Windows Classic thing to me, too.

I'm running XP SP2

Here's my system info:

WindowBlinds version : WindowBlinds 6.1 (build 55 x86)

WindowBlinds is installed correctly on this PC
WindowBlinds appears to be activated on this PC
Your machine supports per pixel borders on WindowBlinds skins.

(Dell 2001FP (Analog)) 1 is attached to NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 420

Wblind.dll         2008/05/06 15:25:20
Wbsrv.dll         2008/04/28 11:35:10
Wbconfig.exe         2008/04/29 21:02:32
Wbload.exe         2008/04/28 11:35:14
Wbhelp.dll         2004/09/18 16:37:07
Wbui.dll         2008/04/28 11:35:05
Tray.dll              2008/04/28 11:35:21
Screen.exe         2008/04/28 11:35:18

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Pam

I've also discovered that it will reapply the XP theme just fine. And if I then try to apply the new theme, it will display the "Just a Moment" graphic from the new theme, but then puts everything back to Windows Classic - bleh!!

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Pam

do you have nView turned on?

One of your file dates is off. Did you uninstall the trial before installing the upgrade. Try uninstalling Windowblinds then reboot and reinstall Windowblinds and reboot again. Post your system info after completing the reinstall.

nView? I don't know what that is.

I did do the uninstall - reboot - reinstall - reboot dance before I posted my system info before. But I'm willing to try again. When I did the reinstall, I did it through SDC and it installed WB5, then Impulse installed WB6. I'll uninstall and see if I can reinstall using Impulse.

Thanks for the lead. I'll check back after.

Here is how to check to see if nView is enabled and how to disable it - nView

Hankers - Thanks for the nView info.

It's working now.

When I tried to uninstall it through SDC I got a message that there was a problem with the uninstall - and it showed it as uninstalled WB5. Since it didn't seem to actually uninstall, I wasn't sure what would happen - but there wasn't anything anywhere else to uninstall it. So I rebooted and installed it again using Impulse. And it worked just fine. Musta been something about WB5/6 that was out of synch.

Thanks for your help. It was not my easiest stardock installation ever - they usually go very smoothly - but at least all seems to be working now.

pamster - yep, there were two files with wrong dates suggesting a 'mixed' install. Glad you got it squared away.

FTR, WB5 definitely needs to be uninstalled before updating to WB6 (saving/copying your skin folders somewhere first); reboot and WB6 will then cleanly install using Impulse or SDC.

Hmmm - This is my current system information for the installation that is working - my wbload date is still 4/28/2008. I'm actually not seeing any difference in the dates than the previous - must have been a conflict somewhere else that was fixed by the uninstall and reinstall.

do you do straight updates, Daiwa?

I think only necessary files get replaced that way

sometimes I download to archive, then update (have the archive just in case that way)

or download to archive, uninstall, restore new archive

I auto-archive and install thru SDC for now (archiving, auto- or otherwise, doesn't seem to be working in Impulse here).

Would that be a reason for different file dates? If what you say is true, we'll never be able to figure out clean installs from dirty ones.

on my list (which I miss some versions once in a while) that date started with (or possible a version before):

6.09g.(b).137

the auto-archive quite working for me a long time ago and I never got a resolution for it:

1st post: Naked Aliens Passed Moderation?
2nd post: SDC [Still] Won't Archive - [More] XML Data [Now] Missing

Once I finally got them all updated (and archived) which took a looooong time (damn dialup) posts showed up and SD peeps were telling people to turn of the autoarchive... so I haven't used that in a year now.

not too hard really, file dates still won't match actual on real dirty ones

I just have to do more scrolling through my text file

They fixed it a long time ago (months now, & posted about it in a thread here) & it's been working fine on SDC since.

I'm on the 6.10.xxx B55 version & have the 2008/02/14 date. [scratches head]
