Tech Trees, please advise!

I have Twilight of the Arnor, just started playing GC; great game, quite challenging, my first turn based strategy.

My question:  Where in the heck can I find a tech tree that lists the ships, and the techs required to build them?  I'd like to have an idea of what to build up to, instead of researching a tech in hopes of a pleasant "surprise".  :D

Thanks in advance!

Good luck, documentation is not a stardock strenght. I asked the same thing two years ago!

There aren't any "ships". You research your weapons, shields, ship size, etc. separately via the separate disciplines clearly laid out in the tree during your research choices. Then you build your own with the components you have researched.

For ships, there are three sets of options:

1) The "default" ships. These are generally acknowledged to be the worst options. Don't rely on these - the AI doesn't!

2) The "computer designed" ships. New for TA and not available for DL/DA. If the AI were designing ships for itself, this is what it would build. You can decide the weight.

3) The "player designed" ships. See the shipyard - design your own ship from scratch.

In a normal TA game, you get #1 and #3 always, and can also have #2 if you turn on the appropriate setting (enabled by default).

I begin to understand....this adds a whole new layer of complexity to an already very complex game. Wish me luck! :)

Once you design your own ships then you will see those designs in the tech tree next time you play that race (when you select individual techs), along with the other techs required for the ship that you don't have at that point.

End of quote

There aren't many default ships in TA anymore. A colony, constructor, freighter, scout...that's about it. The rest of the old default designs went the way of the Dodo bird due to the ability to get the PC to make ships for you.

There is also the option of using the templates then adding your tech. That way u can have a cool looking ship fast instead of wasting time designing your own. (if u have time constraints)
