All downloaded bootskins really blurry?

stardock bootskin ver 1.05a

All the bootskins are really blurry when i apply them (the ones i downloaded from this site). they are just not clear and look horrible. i am applying them with stardock bootskin version 1.05a i dont know whats wrong. on the site the tiny images look great, but on startup they look blurry and messed up. can i have some help please?

Bootskins in XP can only be of a real low resolution (I believe its 640 x 480)and only in 16 colours. Those limitations are due to the fact that at the moment Bootskins gets displayed on your screen, windows hasn't loaded yet (obviously), and can't take full advantage of your graphics card yet.

Have a look at the previews of the Bootskins you downloaded (just click onto the thumbnails) and see whether they look different there than on your system. You will see that they look rather coarse as well. If not, the author of the bootskin might have 'cheated' a bit and uploaded the preview in a higher resolution.

well, you can sorta... but it will take effort on your part to create it

with a careful selection of the palette and placement of the colors, it won't seem to be too blurry when loaded
