Scroll bar (instead of wheel)

I bought the game yesterday, and started a tutorial to figure out how to play. I get the the 4th step, and need to use my scroll wheel to zoom. Well, on my synaptics mouse pad, I have a "scroll/slider" bar, but it doen't seem to work in game. (works fine out of game and in GalCivii).

Any thoughs on how to fix?

Those work in GalCivII but in Sins that seems to speeed/slow time.

Haven't tried yet, but in the key mapping it seems to say V and B will zoom, is that maybe just for battle modes? Anyone know?

Nope, V and B should work generally (there isn't really a "battle mode"). You can remap to + and - if you prefer.
