Last week Object Desktop 2008 was released. For the first time since its introduction on Windows in 1999, Object Desktop has been provided in two forms: Object Desktop and Object Desktop Ultimate.

The normal Object Desktop focuses on transforming the Windows experience.  Object Desktop Ultimate targets power users who want to take said transformation into their own hands. :)

We've put together an Info guide. It's meant for print but we've managed to finangle (is that a real word?) it to get it onto the web.

You can check it out at the link below.

FYI... finagle (v): to obtain or achieve by indirect, usually deceitful methods; to cheat; swindle; use crafty, deceitful methods (often with "out of"). "...finagle a day off from work."" :)

so what was $50 last week is $70 this week. just wonderful. maybe you could split it into three forms and pump the price up to $90. does anyone else think Stardock is getting a little greedy???? $20 just for access to downloads (subscription)...they give you 4 custom suites which are totally useless unless you have object desktop which you can purchase separately.... and on and on..i see changes since 1999, but, unfortunately not all to the good. it is getting abit pricey for "eye candy" which also chews up valuable system resources.

Bressler it's a funny thing about the economy and people, cost of goods, services and labor never seem to go down yet folks don't seem to understand how the prices of a product go up.

Yeah, I guess Stardock is greedy, the nerve of them wanting to have enough revenue coming in to pay their bills, meet their obligations and make a profit. If I were you, I wouldn't give them one more cent of your hard earned money.

Luckily for me I'm not you so I have a very different outlook which allows me to enjoy Stardocks programs/software and their great support.

save your sarcasm. have you seen their balance sheet??? if not, you're talking out of your bottom.

Phily0381... the funny thing is people who take delight in demeaning others. While I certainly respect your view, it can certainly be made without the sarcasm.... a simple, I disagree would have sufficed. Luckily, I AM NOT YOU!!!!

Bressler sure it was sarcasm, but as you replied with your opinion to the original post, so did I to yours.

One doen't need to look at their balance sheet to understand the effects of inflation on the economy. No doubt you see it's effect every day.

The cost increase that you show by the way is for some one purchasing Object Desktop for the first time. If you were a current subscriber to Object Desktop when the 2008 version was released you got a free upgrade to Ultimate. When it comes time to renew it is only $35. I checked the product page and was really surprised.

Phily0381..i am 54 years old and I understand the economy very well. I have been a banker for 35 years and probably understand the economy better than you. I have been a Stardock customer before there was an object desktop, only windowblinds, which was half baked when i first purchased it back in 1999. I am a bit upset at how they currently structure their products for sale. I was not told until after I paid that the 4 premium suites were useless unless I purchased object desktop. When I asked them for an upgrade and I would pay the difference, they said sorry. In any event, my comments were directed at a COMPANY not an individual. Surely you are bright enough to know the difference.

Well since you brought age into it Bressler, I'm 59. Like yourself I spent my whole working life in the Financial world, Stared in banking, 30 years in the military in the Budget field and ended up as the Circulation Manager for a small newspaper. I guess you can say I also understand the economy. Your original reply though really isn't about that is it?

If what you say happened then you were told and given incorrect information. You can upgrade from any stand alone program, like WindowBlinds, to Object Desktop at a reduced price. I did it when I first started with Stardock and WindowBlinds, upgraded to Object Desktop and have enjoyed it. I also just checkec the product page for Object Desktop and it confirms that.

Yes I understand that you were directing your comments at a company. I'm also sure that you can see how someone who uses the products of Stardock and enjoys them might have to answer as reply every now and then in support of that company.

Throwing out age and profession may not help the discussion at hand.
Throwing around sarcasm may not help either.  (Lord knows I never do that.  ;))

Deep breaths . . or maybe a game?  May I suggest Winterbells? http://www.ferryhalim.com/orisinal/g3/bells.htm

Well Phily0381...if you're 59, surely you can understand that while discourse is a good thing, it can be done without insulting and demeaning an individual. As I said earlier, I respect your views but perhaps (even at 59) you could still learn something about how to interact with others, making your point and still showing respect for the other person. Yes, my original comment was about that exactly. You don't have to be a rocket scientist to figure out why they split object desktop into two pieces. Again stop speaking out of your bottom. Perhaps you should click on subscription benefits. Why would you sell 4 premium suites without including object desktop?? It's like offering a car without an engine...In my world, it's known as bait and switch.

gotcha. unfortunately, i'm not one to back away from a good argument and i never let sarcasm go unanswered. I live by treating others the way I want to be treated but when they don't......anyhow i think it's time to take the high road to bed.... goodnight.

A Little Vertigo, Anyone? -The Highest Bridge in the World

The Millau viaduct is part of the new E11 expressway connecting Paris and Barcelona and features the highest bridge piers ever constructed. The tallest is 240 meters (787 feet) high and the overall height will be an impressive 336 meters (1102 feet), making this the highest bridge in the world.

Bressler: Current customers can download from this site without needing a WC Subscription.

Also if you have a standalone product thats part of OD, you can upgrade to OD for less than the usual OD price.
