Ships moving in combat

frigates and some cruises

Ive been fiddling around with the modding package and making my own mod (just changing numbers and getting friendly with editing), how can i make it that when frigates or some cruises are engaging enemy they are moving constantly (slowly or at a set speed) to give it a atmospheric feel of inertia on the battlefield in space. Its a thought and would like to try this, if anyone knows how to do this please reply thank you

Thing is with SoaSE the areas which have been made mod friendly are really very friendly, but pretty much everything else thats locked inside the engine is off limits.

Our only hope is that with successive releases more of these areas are split off and opened up, I would think that is unlikely for quite sometime if at all its a pretty big ask with little financial reward for their efforts.

In many ways what would be good is a new game using the SoaSE engine bias towards RTS gameplay and a completely seperate game to SoaSE.

You could pay for a license then ask for an uncompiled copy of the game engine code :CONGRAT:

I don't see it this way at all. Modders were given an expectation from the betas on of a very flexible game and I don't see any reason why asking for a flexible game to mod is somehow now a crazy idea.

I really can't understand this request, why would you want the ships to move?! This is not just a graphics issue we're talking about, here.

Fact 1: The capitals are lumbering behemoths, and cannot turn quite well.

Fact 2: The capitals have set weapon slots located on set locations on their hull.

The KOL battleships, for example, have their heavy-duty guns in the front, and they already have to lumber about in order to bring their weapons to bear as it is, especially if the enemy is behind them. If they would constantly move, this would hurt their damage capabilities, as they would constantly have to compensate, which will take time.

Even a second of delay can mean the difference between a beaten-up, barely surviving 10th level expensive captial ship and a big bunch of floating space debris. And this is not a second of delay we're talking about here, this will amount to much more on heavy battles. Better explosions is a much more reasonable request, in my opinion, as it has no gameplay ramifications what so ever.

Done so - I still don't see how my comment is rendered invalid by it.

It is also directed at the whole "ships don't move in combat" crowd.

As in anyone thats played a space RTS game?

There are many reasons for wanting to do this clearly there is some effect some modders want to achieve. If you want to argue the pro's and con's of doing so I believe there is a reasonably long thread in the general forum on the go about this.

Only way to work around this is making a mothership that can spawn battleships. Like for example you replace tech bomber model with battleship model and all ships has anti fighter weapons so it can hit them. I've been working on this lately but the bigger models feel kinda stiff instead of smooth.
