Funky dashes around per-pixel buttons

On all my windowblinds when I apply them I get these funky looking dash marks all around the perpixel buttons when I click on them

Any ideas??

Thats windows crappy way of indicating which button is active...especially when using keyboard shortcuts.

I have tried long and hard to get rid of them...but no luck yet.

If someone could tell us how, that'd be great. ;)

Thing is before my hard drive crashed about a week ago I never had this problem.

Ah Ha!! I found the setting!! With TuneUp Utilities under system control->animations and effects there is a setting "Display selection rectangle with color background". When I unchecked it this annoying little thing went away!! :D  I imagine the setting is somewhere under control panel display somewhere.

I saw that your screen shot is the same one I have loaded right now, so I thought "Let's see." Yep, I get the same outline. I tried re-applying the skin which sometimes helps this old bucket of bolts deal with some graphics issues, but no change.

Judging from I.R.'s skins, if he says he knows what it is and can't get rid of it, I believe him  :)  Don't know how you were dodging it before, maybe you've just looked at everything closer after the crash? - I know I do.  :)

Yeah, DaveRI, that is how I noticed it. I think the setting is located here "Start -> right-click My Computer -> Properties -> Advanced -> Performance -> Settings -> Show translucent selection rectangle" however, when I selected it, I don't think it went away. I had to use the tweak with TuneUp Utilities.

(I really need to start remembering to refresh my forum page before I reply to something after I've been poking around for awhile - the horse had already left the barn on this one.   )

I tried windows settings,regedits,etc...

I have to try the tune-up setting.(tho that sounds like the same setting in windows, maybe it applies it better)I've been getting these dotted rectangles randomly since I started using keyboard nav and shortcuts more.(on skinned and unskinned buttons)

Dave,I appreciate the vote of confidence,I even build and repair pc's,but this and tooltips(especially the taskbar)are 2 that I have never been able to lose.

We shall see about these rectangles. ;)

Ya and of course now that it's been brought up I find myself sitting here staring at the little rectangle that I can't seem to get rid of    Never even noticed it before and now it bugs me.

I've never had TuneUp utilities loaded up, and I'm not going to buy it (if my google search pointed me to the same one they're talking about) to see if it'll get rid of my rectangles. I did have Norton System works on here for awhile and it had a tweaker with it, maybe that's where it came from. Not going to reinstall it either. Only other tweaker I've got is the old Microsoft PowerToys TweakUI and I don't see anything for it. And nope, my Control Panel / Settings checkbox won't touch it one way or the other.

With any luck I'll forget about the whole thing tomorrow. :)  If I can just stop looking at it...

Thanks Bebi Bulma! It even took care of them on the limited users, I was kind of wondering if it would be limited to the Admin it was run under.

That's better. Odd the little things I can get fixated on! Thanks again!
