Windows XP Service Pack 3 Dated

I wonder what it will break...

http://www.neowin.net/news/main/08/04/15/windows-xp-sp3-release-dates

The word from our friends over at Neowin.net is that Windows XP Service Pack 3 has been given a set of release dates.  Previously given a release of "2008-ish" we now have a very specific set of dates to track.  The shocker is how soon they are.  You'll be able to snag a release copy of Service Pack 3 as soon as  April 29th.

For the full set of dates, including when it will be automatically pushed via Windows Update, and a lively discussion on what's to come from this latest (and likely last) major update to WindowsXP, hit up the thread over at Neowin.

Uh well we will see. Took ages for Vista 64-bit Sp1 to be pushed through WUpdate from when it was supposed to be pushed out...not holding my breath.

Thats WU, you could have downloaded it entirely through Microsoft via google search the day SP1 was released. As far as XPSP3 goes it won't be a big update, not much was added from what I hear. It's mostly an accumulation of windows updates, which is actually what service packs where originally intended for

this is old news, I already have SP3 and I was asked to download it on one of my machines via Windows Update...if it's not yet released then I must have gotten an advance copy? :HOT:

Its good news if only for the satisfaction that Xp isnt dead.Despite what the people who bought Vista would like to have you believe. ;p

Well, it's nice to see MS didn't drop XP, but how could they considering the Vista flop. I have been running Vista for a few months and I just happen to like it. Not just the commetics but the usability of it as well. But sad to say I had to revert back to XP because of some incompatabilties that Vista has with RAID.

In my adventure to reinstall XP, which of course took all day, but was rather suprised that instead of Windows Update making me install 20 updates before reaching SP2, in went straight for it. Needless to say, nearly 50 updates after I was not anymore excited. I hope SP3 would combine all updates to one simple (yes but large) update.

Are you sure? It might be a beta. Try right clicking on "my computer" (go to start > control panel > system) go to properties and look at the the windows version there to make sure you don't have SP2

(how come I have to insert my own line breaks in my posts to make it look right??
