A Few Issues

I have been hearing such great things about ObjectDesktop 2008 that I decided to buy it.  I've got to say, so far, I'm pretty unhappy with my decision.  The first thing that happened was that four of the programs that came with the Ultimate Package weren't compatible with 64-bit Vista.  Second, most of my icons were reverted to that "blank page" picture as soon as ObjectDesktop was installed.  Next, when I try to open MyColors it asks me for a Serial Number, so I give it my SN and it tells me it's not valid.  Half of the programs that came in the package don't work effectively.  Here's just one example:  In WindowsBlinds, I tried to make my taskbar transparent.  Instead of that happening, Vista went to Classic Theme.  WTF?  I can't believe I just spent $70 only to get totally shafted.  Anyway, my only concern at this point is getting my normal icons back and cutting my losses.  Can ANYONE help me out with this problem?

When you say 'as soon as Object Desktop was installed', what exactly do you mean? Did you install it from a CD? Are you prompted to install all the individual apps at once or selectively? Or did you install the apps using Impulse or Stardock Central? I'm am genuinely curious since I've not installed the apps from CD before and am unaware that you can simply 'install Object Desktop' as opposed to the individual applications.

A little more detail will help get started sorting out what's going on.

I used Impulse, I'm not certain at what stage of the installation the icons went to blank pages, but I do believe it was somewhere around the time WindowsBlinds was installed. I simply let them all download and install at the same time. At this point it's sort of moot as I did a System Restore in Vista in order to get my settings back. However, I do enjoy the software (the parts that work) so I'd love to re-install the applications if I can find out how to fix the problem or prevent it. ObjectDesktop is a software package, so I simply assumed people might know what I meant when I said I installed it. I guess that was silly. In any case, if you need more information let me know or if you know how to fix this, please clue a moron in on the solution.

Hi kizevin,

I'm just an end user also and, although I don't have Vista 64, I might be able to help a little. I would recommend you download the individual components of OD 2008 one at a time. You might want to consider using Stardock Central for this since it's the current supported stable application for this. Impulse is new and still in Beta. I have Windows XP 32 and find ipulse works well for me. Of course I've been using Object Desktop for a couple of years and can handle small problems when they occur with beta releases.

I do know that Stardock has been updating Icon Packager and it could be that's what caused this small glitch to occur. I would recommend you contact [email protected] and ask for assistance since there are numerous updates occuring in many areas including online help web pages. Stardock should be able to assist you in getting OD 2008 installed for your OS and perhaps ensure you get the correct release of Icon Packager, if that's the issue. ;)

You can find Stardock Central free download here WWW Link. Do Not download Object Desktop from here because this link is the free trial version web page. You will want to use Stardock Central for downloading your OD 2008 which is also used to activate your software. An introduction to using Stardock Central can be found here WWW Link. That should get you going right.

There are certain issues with Icon Packager. To make the long story short they identifed them and updated... to find it had not totally gone away for some users. Another update is pending right now and besides a WindowBlinds fix being tested I belive it is at the top of the list.

We will need to likely discuss account info as well as system set up so if you could please contact us at [email protected]. Please also referance this thread in the email to save considerable time in the matter. We would like to get this working for you as soon as possible.

Yea I've tried to e-mail support twice and gotten no response, I guess you guys are just busy dealing with the new version bugs. Anyway, I do hope to hear back from you guys as I'd love to use the program.

A responce was sent at 9am this morning. The delay was simply due to the fact we are not in the queues late Friday night when the follow up email came in.

Previous to that we responded the day after your first email but according to your responce you didn't get it.

Please check your spam filter to see if Stardock emails are going there. There has to be one somewhere as I can confirm from this end that it did get delivered. We look forward to helping you.

Strange, Outlook doesn't have it in my Junk E-Mail folder, nor in any other folder. That's not cool. I totally believe you guys sent me an e-mail, because Sales got back to me in about 24 hours when I talked to them. I did notice that Outlook tried to put that e-mail in the Junk folder but I was able to just move it back, it also alerted me to the fact it was filtering it. However, I haven't gotten any new notices about filtered items nor does it appear to be in any of the Outlook folders. Odd indeed, perhaps I should try from a different e-mail address. In fact, I'll try from my comcast account with an apology in the first line that I'm having to ask the same question for the third time, as I'm sure it's getting annoying.

kizevin, are you using something like Gmail wired through Outlook? Try actually logging onto Gmail through your browser and check to see if it got junked there before it made it to Outlook.
