Request (or info): Change starting AI players stats

Just got the game and started a random, single-player huge map. I chose no pirates and easy enemies. As soon as I built a single ship and went to a neighboring planet, I ran into several AI opponents ships (though the planet wasn't colonized). How did an AI player get ships built and into that space within minutes of the game starting? A bit later in the game (after I had colonized a couple of planets), I found that my neighboring AI owned 10 planets already! This also caused a problem where 2 different civilizations were attacking me and I could barely hold them off.

So, it seems obvious that it's not like...say, Civilization 4, where everyone starts off with 1 planet and the same number of ships (none). The game setup is "cheating" and giving the AI players several or more planets, and many, many ships and other bonuses, as well as spreading their ships to far-away places. Is there a way to mod the starting info so that all AI opponents start just the way you do...with nothing? Thanks!

Probably is, but to answer your question (which it seems you've obviously not bothered to actually inspect the ships you ran into)

Each unowned planet has a militia that you must take out before you can colonize (well, you don't 'have' to but it is strongly recommended)

Likewise, the AIs know how to play and even on easy they can be a challenge. In short, don't just sit back and think the AI is doing the same, you must push forward.

A suggestion: when you first start off build a capital ship facility and a capital ship first (the first one is free of charge)

Oh and about the AI: They DO start with the same resources YOU do.

Hello Graxx,

Unfortunately, many players first experience with Sins of a Solar Empire is just as poor as yours. You see, in this game, you have the ability to build the most powerful unit in the game right from the start, and for free. Only thing is, it's a secret. You should build a capital ship factory and capital ship first thing. Then you will be able to take those planets near you and keep up with the other races.

Another part is that the AI builds scouts and sets them on auto-explore immediately. They often have 3-4 running as fast as they can. They also build attacking forces as mobile defense/offense very early. You just have to be faster. Colonize quickly and don't worry too much about grander stuff (serious upgrades and buildings) until you have 3-5 planets. This will help with quick colonization.
