DesktopX 4: Export to Apple Dashboard Widgets

2008 April Fools Joke  :D

This morning we announced that WinCustomize was expanding to cover the Mac and Linux customization scene.  As a follow-up, today we're incredibly happy to also announce the first of our products to support the new cross-platform effort...

One of the great new features of DesktopX is the ability to export your widgets/gadgets to run on the Windows Vista Sidebar.  While 3.5 is still receiving its finishing touches we've already begun the planning stages for the next version of DesktopX.

Version 4.0 will add the ability to export any widget you build to the Apple Dashboard Widget format.  Effectively expanding the reach of any DX coder/widget maker to a whole new, untapped audience.  Now when you build a widget with DX, you'll be able to create a regular desktop widget for Windows XP, a sidebar gadget for Windows Vista and a widget for Apple's Dashboard.

We've already done a little bit of preliminary work on a new exporter.  We tried it out with a very simple widget to make sure it worked... here are the results:

Election Countdown '08 by Island Dog

We're very excited for the possibilities this holds.  Imagine, one Widget building tool for all the major OS platforms.  Build once and export to almost every desktop PC on the 'net!

We currently are aiming for a November 31st, 2008 beta release for DX4 and the Dashboard Widget exporter.

Must be a joke because you put a date on this. And we all know what happens when you put a date on things.

This one is pretty believable because the object actually exists.

Hey Mike! I have already heard about this... But it seems to me that you forgot two important things. Microsoft will be one more of Stardock's departments as well as Windows Vista will be a little part of DesktopX 4.0 after its Long-Awaited Release. Moreover Bill will bring coffe for Brad every morning.  ;)

Unfortunately it's rather sad that this isn't true. With many Apple users using BootCamp, or Virtualization to run Windows this would be a big boom to DesktopX.
