Custom Skyboxes

What exactly is the process?

I've been looking into creating custom skyboxes for sins and the dimensions of the process have me slightly confused. I was wondering if anyone could explain to me what would be the easiest way to do this?

From what I gathered the skybox is made up of two parts, the skyboxenviromentcube.dds which 1536x256 and is basically the six faces of a cube...

and the skyboxbackdrop.dds which is 4096x1024


Is the backdrop basically the wallpaper and the two right images just the sphereized top and bottom?

If anyone could toss in their input, it would be greatly appreciated.

AFAIK yes, it works just like the planet textures (paint the strip around the center and the round caps on the top and bottom) but inside-out. The environment cube map is a version of the skybox used for the reflection effects on ships (advent in particular).
