Disabling Aero Effects

I'm working with Vista on my computer and I much prefer the look of windowblinds schemes, but while I'm using an art program by the name of FireWorks MX I get severe lag while the Windows Aero settings are enabled. this wasn't a problem before windowblinds as I just disabled those settings. well I'd do the same again but now I don't know how :p can anyone tell me where the settings for this are? in either windowblinds or skinstudio. and for the record, i did search for this answer first but didn't see anything in the search. sorry if this is a common question and I'm just blind.

Try disabling and then stopping the Desktop Window Manager service from services.msc.

is it really necessary to stop it in windows itsself when it's just a windowblinds setting?

Well, you could try going to the System Info tab of WB and checking "never use per-pixel borders on a skin," but I don't think that would help you since that leaves the DWM on.

I just went and disabled the desktop manager you suggested and it did exactly what I needed, despite seeming a little over-the-top. either way, thanks!
