Weekly Poll: Widescreen vs Standard Resolutions

Weekly Poll: Widescreen vs Standard Resolutions

I want a 30" monitor...

https://www.wincustomize.com/webpoll.aspx

Lets look at your PC capabilities a bit more closely.  Last week I asked about whether you used a desktop or a laptop as your main machine.  Desktops won out easily.  This week lets talk screen resolutions.  For authors of wallpapers, DX themes, skins, icons and almost every other category in skinning, screen resolutions can be a massive pain in the rear.  What looks fantastic at 1600x1200 might look like garbage or simply be unusable at 1024x768.  At the same time, users with widescreen monitors can have a hard time finding content that doesn't look stretched on their monitor.

So, to start with, I'd like to hear from everyone on whether they use a more regular standard aspect rations like 4:3 and 5:4, or if they go in for widescreen (16:9, 16:10).

Results, as usual, next week.

I have dual widescreen monitors (1680x1050) on my desktop and a widescreen laptop (1900x1200). Haven't done the normal 4:3 monitor in ages (except at work, where they're still living in the past :) ) Can't imagine going back to non widescreen monitors, the extra screen space comes in handy. Wallpapers are sometimes a bit of an issue, but I get some from digital blasphemy, and they work well.

I read through the complete LFG archives this weekend. Richard may be the best character ever.

22" 1680 X 1050. Love the extra "real estate" of the widescreen! :HOT: I still have a 19" 1280 X 1040, but I can't look at it anymore...

1920 x 1200. I'm just accustomed to widescreen gaming now. Going back to 4:3 would be like going from 5.1 surround sound to 2-channel stereo.

I have a poor mans widescreen of a std hp fp7317 17" monitor using a resoluition of 1280 x 1024 ,to get the widescrren effect i use a widescreen wallpaper with the black strip on top & bottom with the pikkie in the middle, why waste good money on a real widescreen monitor ;p

EDIT: Just had thought i can do a poor mans monitor upgrade by using one of those page reading maginfiers, that way i can adjust the size of monitor area depending on size of the magnifying sheet 24" widescreen here i come :p

ps: page magnifiers are used for reading books,it's basicly a plastic sheet that has magnifying capabilities & is encompessed in a plastic surround

Currently 1280x1024 on a 17' monitor. But I've been convincing myself for about 4 months that I don't need to buy a 22" monitor. I think I'm getting close to losing that battle though

Ok scratch that. I just gave in and ordered a 22" Widescreen, thanks to reading all these posts.

Yup I'll blame this thread. That'll work.

Should have gone with a 24".... :-" (I was gonna get a 22" at first but then decided I'd kick myself later for not getting a 24") Go for the gusto! ;P

I thought about it but I got a good deal on the 22" and a decent 24" would've cost me about $100 more. I figured I'll be jumping from 17" to 22" it should seem like enough of a difference. ;)
