Weekly Poll: Widescreen vs Standard Resolutions

I want a 30" monitor...

https://www.wincustomize.com/webpoll.aspx

Lets look at your PC capabilities a bit more closely.  Last week I asked about whether you used a desktop or a laptop as your main machine.  Desktops won out easily.  This week lets talk screen resolutions.  For authors of wallpapers, DX themes, skins, icons and almost every other category in skinning, screen resolutions can be a massive pain in the rear.  What looks fantastic at 1600x1200 might look like garbage or simply be unusable at 1024x768.  At the same time, users with widescreen monitors can have a hard time finding content that doesn't look stretched on their monitor.

So, to start with, I'd like to hear from everyone on whether they use a more regular standard aspect rations like 4:3 and 5:4, or if they go in for widescreen (16:9, 16:10).

Results, as usual, next week.

4:3 (1600x1200)
I run dual monitors at work cause I really need the space.
Same at home, but I plan to go widescreen with my next desktop purchase tho.

Thanks for the article and poll. I use a 1680x1050 resolution and find it difficult to find a wide variety of walls. Larger walls like 1900x1200 resize pretty well for my resolution and of course the subject matter of the wall dictates how it will look resized. Round objects are the most noticable of course. Lately, many more artists are providing walls in assorted resolutions, and to them I tip my hat for their extra effort. That aside, I extend my appreciation to all of the artists who provide us with content, sized for me or not. :D

I have both. There isn't an option for that. If I had to choose, I'd go with widescreen.

This will help me decide what aspect ratio to make any future designs :)

Typical Dell Inspiron laptops like I and many others run are 1400x1050 (4:3) at their highest resolution. I would like to get a new laptop but the new LCDs look like mirrors. In order to get one of the matte finish with professional graphics, and high resolution, it's a special order and more expensive.

Bought a 20" widescreen 2 months ago. :p :D

I have standard, but would rather have widescreen.  :D

Currently 1280x1024 on a 17' monitor. But I've been convincing myself for about 4 months that I don't need to buy a 22" monitor. I think I'm getting close to losing that battle though :D

I've been converted to the widescreen. I'll avoid standard resolution in the future, period - it's out of the question for a desktop and a large black eye on a laptop in my book.
SB: Wiiiiiiiiidescreeeeeeeeen! Left side: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Right side: WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA Hey - how long have you been standing there? HR: I think I live here.

Widescreen FTW!

I'm diggin' the new 24" widescreen I got last month. I'm sure I'll never go back to a standard screen. I run my browser at 1440 x 900, but I get my game on at 1920 x 1200. It's aaaaaaawsome. :HOT:

SanChonino: Thanks.  I read through the complete LFG archives this weekend.  Richard may be the best character ever.  :)

been running 1680x1050 for the last four years on my laptops....couldn't go back to anything else...on a 15.4" screen it's perfect..anything higher makes it too difficult to read...for video/photo editing it's perfect for me :)

I use widescreen I love all of the space you get. I could never go back to 4:3 again. ;p I just need to get a second one now so I can run dual monitors.

I use a standard monitor, 1280x1024. I tried to vote, but nothing seemed to happen (the total votes did not go up). Do I need to subscribe to WinCustomize in order to participate in polls?

I couldn't vote on this -- my main monitor is a 20" 1280x1024, and the left monitor is a 20" 1400x900 widescreen.

I couldn't vote on this

Yes - in fact, I forgot to mention that I haven't been able to vote on any other polls. I tried to vote on the Desktop vs. Laptop poll, but I had the same problem as I said above.

Widescreen FTW. 1920x1200 on this 24" and 1280x800 on my 15.4 laptop. Now if only there was a "Widescreen" category in the wallpapers section to sort by.....finding widescreen wallpapers is really difficult unless you know where to look (namely, interfacelift and dA). Especially for the larger sizes (for my 24").

1920x1200 24" Vista desktop, 1680x1050 22" XP desktop, 1280x800 15.4" Vista laptop

Simple choice for me: 19" 5:4 display has more pixels than a 19" 16:10 display.

Running a flat screen at 1440 by 1050 (I think). So much for "standard" screen. More people use wide!

I use a 24" wide (16:10) at a resolution 1920x1200, and also three 19" standard (5:4) at a resolution 3840x1024. Finding walls for the 24 is no big deal, there are a lot of 1920 res. walls available, but trying to find walls three 19's for the 3840 res. is a pain in the rear. Though I have found a few places to accommodate me though the choices are not always the best.
