A quick story from a lurking n00b...

Hello all!

I joined the forum last week as I was installing the game, but haven't had the time to post just yet. One of my good friends was adamant about my picking up SoaSE since he knows I'm a fan of RTS'. Originally, I wasn't going to get it due to the fact that there was no demo (I read about others having this same fear), but he convinced me to pick it up anyways - and I'm glad that I did.

Today, I was lurking through some posts, trying to get a good idea of what to look forward to later on with the game (I still haven't finished my first single player match against the CPU), and found a post that let me know just what kind of community to expect here.

Needless to say, I'm impressed! The speediness and friendliness of the replies gives me pretty good vibes as to what to expect here, and I'm glad to be a member!

Thus far (in the unfinished match against the CPU), I've figured out just today that I'm apparently using the Advent race (Mothership is my colonizing ship - correct me if i'm wrong), and have a LONG way to go in defeating the CPU i'm facing. I still can't figure out how to build refineries though.  :NOTSURE:

Thanks for reading, and thanks for the help - without knowing you did. Hope to see you online once I know what I'm doing! :D

Sure, pick the one race that doesn't have refineries :)

The Advent don't have a separate structure for it, they have research that stems off the Trade Port structure research, allowing it to switch mode from trade center to boosting the resource extraction rates of the mines in that grav well :)

Glad you're enjoying the game! And don't be afraid to ask questions here :)

Thanks a lot for the notice!

I'll definitely ask questions as they arise! That is, if I can't find the answer via search/TFM - I know the base n00b rules. :D

After my last game's forums, it's nice to have a forums I can come home after work and read for fun again. :P

Agree with you wholeheartedly, both about the game and the community. Good luck with your comp stomp. What space strategy games have you enjoyed in the past?
