Star background bug?!

A funny thing happens when I load a game, the background always turns red (the red nebula background), no matter what I do. I've tried turning off the "Use Colored Skyboxes" effect in the game options (as a matter of fact I've tried turning off ALL effects in the game options), but the game still has that annoying non-realistic red nebula background whenever I load a game.
I start a game with any background, I finish playing for the day, I return to load my last save only to find that damn red thing staring at me. Will someone please help because its really ruining the game for me... (P.S. I have 1.03) dIRECTOR

Try using the blue or Green sun. I think its ment to make a differance to the backrounds, but its hit and miss when i try it.

Nope, the sun's green and the skybox's still red...

Tried it again with a blue sun, as usual. It starts out as a normal black skybox but as soon as I load, the red nebula's back. I've tried it on "Areolian Sector", "Grind Stone" and "Twin Empires" (large scenarios) a number of times.

Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this?

I am having this EXACT same problem. When loading a saved game, its like im in a big red nebula. Same as you, it's pissing me off!

I tried disabling the use colored skyboxes as well, no effect.

I am also running 1.03. I am thinking of going back to 1.00 to see if the problem still exists.

Just so you know, you aren't alone!

I was able to successfully save a game, and load it back up the next say without the red nebula action. Problem is, I had to sacrifice my progress in other saves, and start a new one. Oh well.

Before I started that new game though, I made sure to UNCHECK the Use Colored Skybox option in Effects. I think you have to do this BEFORE you start the game. The change won't seem to help existing savegames (sorry).

I then started a random map, saved it as "test". and quit (but didnt close Sins). I reloaded the saved game, and everything was okay (as expected). I believe I saved the game again just for good measure (though I do not remember for sure). I then quit the game and quit Sins.

Came back to it next day, loaded "test", and NO red nebula!

For reference, you cannot reproduce the red nebula problem without closing down Sins after saving the game. So, you cant save a game, quit the game (but not Sins), and load the game. Everything will look fine for you. The problem will only manifest if you close down Sins and then start it up again.

If still needed, I can try to post screenshots. Let me know.

I'm not clear on the exact steps to make this happen. Blind, can you give me a numbered step by step so we can fix this up for the next patch? Thanks :)

Sorry, yeah my last post was a little scattered.

The procedure I used to save and load a game without the red nebula effect:

1. Start Sins
2. Before starting a new game, go to Options.
3. Go to Effects
4. Uncheck the Use Colored Skyboxes option.
5. Leave the Use Deep Space Skyboxes option checked. It probably doesn't matter though.
6. Go back to the main menu, Single Player, New Game
7. I selected Random - small map. , and started the game
8. Once in game, I saved the game, called it something descriptive.
9. Quit game and Quit Sins

Interesting results when trying to reproduce this problem. Here is what I had to do:

1. Ensure Use Colored Skyboxes option is CHECKED.
2. Start a new new game using the same procedure I listed above.
3. Note the color of the background. For my test, I had a brighter blue background.
4. Save the game. (I saved mine as coloredskybox-blue)
5. Exit the game and close Sins.
6. RESTART YOUR COMPUTER
7. Start Sins and load the game you just saved.
8. Behold the red background!

Screenshot links:

Loaded new game, and saved.

After reboot, and loaded SAME game

It is interesting that the problem WILL NOT reappear (for me) WITHOUT rebooting.

Remember though that if I uncheck the colored skyboxes before starting a new game, save it, reboot, and load it, then everything looks fine (as I detailed in my previous post).

Hey blind,

No luck reproducing this so far... can you confirm for me that this reproduces the problem (just not 100% clear on "same procedure I listed above")

1. Start Sins
2. Ensure Use Colored Skyboxes option is CHECKED.

3. Main menu, Single Player, New Game
4. I selected Random - small map. , and started the game

5. Note the color of the background. For my test, I had a brighter blue background.
6. Save the game. (I saved mine as coloredskybox-blue)
7. Exit the game and close Sins.
8. RESTART YOUR COMPUTER
9. Start Sins and load the game you just saved.
10. Behold the red background!

Thanks

You've done exactly what I have done, so your procedure is right. Sounds like there is something else at work here, if you are unable to reproduce it. I can provide any information you need, debug results, etc. if you'd like to pursue this further. Thanks for following up to this point though, I am impressed with that.

I WOULD write this off as a fluke with my configuration, but since the OP listed the problem first, it isn't just me.

For what it's worth, I am running an evga 7900GS under winxp. I will be able to see if I can reproduce the problem with a sapphire radeon x1800xt under winxp in a few days.

Overall, it is a minor bug, and really just preference. The "red nebula" isn't actually a game glitch itself, it's just one of the colored skyboxes theat you may get at random (I just don't like it). It just happens to switch my game red after saving and rebooting, which is an unwelcome change to my environment.

(and, when I said "as i detailed in my previous post", that was referring to the workaround I found. I am just failing at my clarity here! Sorry!)

Again, let me know if you need anything else.

this is exactly the problem I posted about today - except I get the blue background space color every time I load any saved game. I seem to get it no matter how or what procedures I use to save the game and exit Sins - every time, always the blue.

It seems the newest patch has not addressed this, if you guys at Stardock cannot reproduce this, right?
