Installing Sins of a Solar Empire

I'm having an issue with installing Sins; specifically, the installation package will download and verify fine, but will always freeze at about 8% through the installation and never finish. I've tried reinstalling Stardock, redownloading the archive package for the game, and restarting, multiple times for each but to no avail. I'm running 64-bit XP, and disabled my anti-virus software for the download and installations, but it always hangs. Any thoughts on the issue?

There should be a log file in C:\Program Files\Stardock\SDCentral\Installed called sin.log
Post the last few lines of that.  Maybe it'll help determine the problem.

You might want to send them to [email protected] too as this forum is for community help (although support and development teams at Stardock hang out once in a while).

Here are the online trouble shooting suggestions:

 -Go to Tools->Settings
 -Click the Internet section
 -Click the "Refresh XML Data" button
 -Change download servers
Run this program: http://sd.stardock.com/mike/apps/clear_cache_sdc.bat

This might help. If you try this and still have issues please let us know at [email protected]

I have the exact same problem. The files download and verify just fine, but the extracting freezes at the RESEARCHSUBJECT files (right at 8% complete). I also am running 64-bit windows (biggest mistake of my life) and suspect that is the problem. Seabass, I tried your solution and didn't have any success. I am trying to download and start again and give it another valiant try. If you have any more tricks, I'll give them a try and report back. Thank you for the initial help.

Try the simple thing first and reinstall Stardock Central just to rule out that it isn't a corupted log or install file.

Barring that start a ticket with us at [email protected].

I will try this on my 64 bit machine in the morning to see if I can get it to happen on my end as well.

I've tried a couple of installations and uninstalling stardock and trying again. I put in a ticket a couple of days ago and haven't heard anything. Any luck with your 64 bit install? I am hoping the DVD will solve my problem, just waiting for it to come in the mail.

I'm afraid that with my 64bit Vista I did not have the same problems. I will seek out your ticket and destroy it! I mean assist it as soon as possible. :)
