Vista - No Stardock progs will run under general user account

Hi

I am recently moved to Windows Vista 32 bit vi a fresh install. I have just renewed my Object Desktop lic and purchased Cursor FX.

The Stardock programs are a first time install i.e. never been installed before on my Vista build.

I installed the programs from Stardock central whilst logged on as a user with Admin privilage. The programs start OK for this user account only. All the general user accounts fail to run any Stardock program.

The first error was the general user account message:

"Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may
not have appropriate permissions to access the item."

I managed to fix this as none of the Stardock directories under program files had permission for general user account access. I added read and execute for general user group but I am still having issues e.g.

CursorFX config starts but takes several minutes to display an empty cursor folder.

WindowBlinds starts but the config menu is mostly black and unreadable.

Is anybody running the Stardock apps from a general user account on Windows Vista?

Are you currently running UAC? If so try turning it off for a bit. See if that clears the issue with the permissions already set up.

Yes running UAC,I prefer to run as a general user and UAC is less intrusive with SP1.

I found the solution. As well as having to give read and execute permissions for the user group to the stardock folders under program files I had to give users full access to the stardock folders under c:\users\public\public documents\stardock

This is where the skins, cursors etc are kept. Looks like this could be a simple fix for the installation program to apply.

I was able to replicate that issue. I have forwarded this info up to the developers for them to review. Thanks much for the info and I am glad it is working for you!
