Map Editor Problems

Not sure if this is the right place or if the bugs forum is, but here's the issue.

I try making maps in the editor and sometimes it saves and closes fines.  Other times when I close it it crashes.  It also won't let me use most of the maps that I create.  All star systems have one of eight races assigned to it.  It seems to only like have one 26 planet on the whole map and won't work with a custom home planet set.  Is there some hidden set of rules that the editor works by?
