Special Patrol at the Espy #2

By Jess McDougall

Be thankful Melbourne because Adelaide is so close and Special Patrol came back to indulge in our music scene. Once again playing to a Thursday night crowd at the Espy in St Kilda, this time the crowd were different for 2 reasons, the first reason is that we were treated to 3 new tracks in their late night set, which seem to me to have taken on a bit of a country feel to them. The second reason is that Thursday sept 16th crowd were much larger and appreciative.
After confessing to have been hiding in a cave since their June gig new songs were a treat however the ones we know and love off their LP The Golden Mean and their self titled EP always make for a great set. Front man Miles Mayo in his white retro suit is an impressive figure adding mood to the stage.
For those of you not familiar with Special Patrol’s music, you may remember hearing them on Triple J with the single off their EP „In Your Head” this track displays everything that is great about this band, lots of tender captivating moments using the guitars and the piano to layer their music with melody and complexity. Their most recent track on the JJJs is „Love that holds me to ransom” it too offers the dark but seductive sounds that Special Patrol specialise in. Like I have said before and will keep saying: catch ’em as soon as you can.

p.s sorry it took so long to post!
