Saudis Arrest American Woman In Starbucks

this is absurd

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,331254,00.html

Saudi Arabia, a supposed ally of the U.S., arrested an American businesswoman for sitting with a male co-worker at a table in a Starbucks and having coffee with him. Under Sharia law this is illegal. The story is linked in the header of this article.

These people really need to bring themselves out of the middle ages already. I find it especially interesting that the man was released without being charged with anything.

Don't you know it is the magical, all-powerful vagina that is to blame for all the male "misbehaviors"? Those wimmins need to be kept down so that the men can be normal.

So it would seem. But then what can you expect from people who issue laws about the correct and legal way to beat your wife?

Beating your wife legally is like not beating her at all, right?

Not under Sharia law. It's perfectly legal to beat your wife as long as you don't use a rod or stick thicker than your thumb.

Unfortunately this kind of treatment of woman by the Muttawa is not uncommon at all.  The only thing that makes this story uncommon is that it was actually reported because the woman was not a Saudi.

There is currently a woman there who is facing execution on charges of witchcraft.

This one happened five years ago but it's still horrifying to me.  The religous police in Saudi Arabia prevented girls from being rescued during a fire because they were not "wearing proper dress", 15 girls died.

Supposed?  Friends of countries are not what individuals would consider friends. They are merely acquaintances of convenience.

And we already knew they (Muslims for the dense that require disclaimers)dont think women are real people.

That's why I always say 'rule of chicken' instead of 'rule of thumb' because, frankly, I don't like the rule of thumb.
