Things you need to know in order to be a citizen.

As you may know, I'm in the market to become a US citizen.  I was looking at the citizenship sample test on the INS web site this evening, and I decided that just for fun I'd take it to see how much I really know.   I got most of the answers right...but it made me wonder how many born and bred American citizens would know the answers to the questions asked?

Here's the link to the test - I kept going and did quite a few pages before questions got repeated.  How many of you know the history of your great nation?  How many of you know the intricacies of the American judical and democratic system and process?

Interesting stuff.  I got them all right but wouldn't have done so if it hadn't been multiple choice.  I think having to know who wrote the Star Spangled Banner is pretty silly.

I did okay. I was amused that the ones I missed (2 out of about 75 -- although some of those were repeats) were all about constitutional ammendments. Guess I know what I need to study.

It does make me wonder about what is really the necessary information you need to be a citizen.

It's all American History and economics and stuff.  I guess that they want to make sure you have a good idea of how the country operates and where it came from before they let you take the oath.

I agree with Jill: knowing who wrote the Star Spangled Banner is pretty petty.  But, if that's what I need to know, then I'll learn it.  I'm having fun with it thus far......

I know a number of people who have gone through the process of becoming a citizen. It is odd what gets you through the process. One friend told me that his wife had done very poorly on the test and was also doing very badly on the interview when she told the interviewer that she could sing the national anthem (first verse only). She sang it for the interviewer and was then dismissed with a passing stamp on her paperwork! Don't know if that will work anymore. I sure hope not, but on the off chance it does, I'm going to make sure my wife has the song memorized before November!

Because I have just visited Washington DC, I answered most of it right, 4 out of 5 most of the time. *G* I guess visiting DC should be on the list of anyone who wants to become an American citizen.

I've been there...many years ago, but nonetheless.

Chip:  That's hilarious!  Perhaps I should mix it up a bit and sing 'My Country 'Tis Of Thee' instead!
