10 years ago today

I was doing something very important.

I was making my contribution to the world's population and giving birth to a whopping boy-child without the aid of narcotics or epidurals (I know I go on about that, but YOU try doing it and then you'll have some kind of idea of what a feat it is).

David Alexander made his debut at 18000 (British time) on Sunday, September 11th 1994.  I had been sorta kinda in labor for a couple of days, but when I went into labor proper I went fast - 5 cms to delivered in less than 90 mins.

Davey weighed over 9lbs, a big baby by normal standards but for my frame - huge.  He had silky light brown had light brown hair and blue eyes, and his dad was in tears as he cut the cord.  I was too, partly out of pain, but mainly because we had a little boy.

Anyway, Davey's 10 today.  He's an amazing child - he just got moved into the Talented and Gifted class at school - and when I look at him I see so much of his dad and even his grandfather it just amazes me.

Happy Birthday, son-of-mine.  I'm sorry that today isn't as happy as it once was.  I think that some day you'll make good on your promise of kicking Osama's butt for ruining your birthday.  Occasionally I can see the man you'll become in you, Davey, and I honestly think that you can (and will) be able to do almost anything you set your mind to.  I love you....

Love, mom.

Happy birthday, Davey!

And thank you, dharma, for sharing (I hope he doesn't get to make good on his promise to Osama, though, as I am hoping Osama is roasting on a spit in the hottest regions of Hell by that time).

Thanks, all...Davey said he didn't know so many people thought about him on his birthday!  He's very pleased....

..and he wants to tell you all that he got a cell phone for his birthday.  (it's just a pre-paid one, but he's very proud of it. He's called everyone he can think of today....it tickles me to see him so happy!)

Davey, Happy Birthday man!

Karen, my wife gave birth to both of ours without anesthesia of any sort either. And while I don't know exactly what it was like, I was able to witness it. I have pretty strong feelings about the over-use of anesthesia with birth, but that is another blog.

Congrats to you and felicitaciones to Davey!
