Hey everyone.

I just wanted to let you know that we in Florida, almost all of Florida are taking our Precations for the approaching storm. Having lived in South FLorida during Hurricane Andrew I have to say I am a little more cautious than some. The wood is cut for the windows, the food and water are stocked up. I will be cleaning up the yard of all material that can be blown away. I will attempt to post up until we get a loss of power an or cable signal. Lets see how long that last.

People are stocking up, plywood is now getting scarce, food stores are getting low on stuff, but hey we will make do.

Here where I live we are projected to get Tropical force winds for a minimum of 24 to 36 hours and hurricane force winds for up to 12. The rain should be measured in feet from what we are told. SO everyone take care and have a good weekend and hope for the best for us in the path of the storm. I am going to take tommorrow off to finalize all my preparations. I hope my computer makes it through the storm, but if it doesn't, its insured maybe I can get a new Alienware machine out of it.

ShadowWar, Thanks for the update. I lived in the Boynton Beach area and now live in Wa. state so I have been wondering what the path will be. I still have lots of friends and family there. Please take care of yourself. I remember Andrew as well. Hopefully it won't be as destructive. Thanks again.

My parents live in Ft. Lauderdale and they said it already looks like a war zone. The $15 a sheet plywood sold out a day ago and people lined up at 3AM at Home Depot for a shipment of wood that was to arrive at 11AM. Not to mention that the only wood left is the $30 a sheet plywood. They also had a run on gas that left many with empty fuel tanks. There was a tax break or something on the price of gas for the month of August in Florida so what does everyone do? They wait until August 31 to get the cheap gas so add that rush with the hurricane crowd and you get dry gas stations all over the place. Not to mention that they closed Port Everglades where the tankers come in with more gas. Hopefully everyone finds eneough gas to take them far from the eye of the storm. There was also a mad dash to the ATM machines so people have cash in case they lose electricity.

I hope everyone down there fares well and the damage is not too great.

Yeah I'm in Orlando and am dreading this since we are still recovering from Charley.  There is no gas anywhere, and ice is even harder to find.  I have heard that this is the first time in history that two category 4 storms have struck Florida within a month of each other.  I can't say I am really anxious more like dreading the aftermath of having to deal with the consequences.  Sometimes living in Florida we tend to forgot there is a price for paradise...

I was up till midnight cutting the plywood for the windows of my house, I have just finished packing my office stuff up and will be leaving my office to go home. My office is in a manufactured building (If it blows 20 mph we feel it move) so I am expecting my office building to be gone when I return afte the storm. Thanks for the well wishes and if you check the original post the image will update the track as it is updated by NOAA.
