The internet. A great invention. Opening the doors to hundreds of different worlds. Thousands of different sites. Millions of different people. We all here at JU use it to the best of our advantage. Having said that, the internet comes with its own stigma. You see you are a nameless, faceless person. It allows those of us that maybe are slightly socially retarded, something to hide behind. A chance to create something new for themselves. So the people using the internet either have to be hardcore geeks, or socially challenged weirdos. Now we know better, of course. This stigma is tough to shake though. Because these people do exist. The internet is a safe place for these people to be, living what they feel is some kind of normality. Accepted for who they are, rather than social status or physical appearance. There other elements though. More dangerous elements. People going after young children for example. In them cases the faceless medium isn't so good. These cases are getting fewer and fewer though, and the security is getting tighter, and as long as people are sensible the internet can be a fun and interesting place to be.

Now internet dating is becoming more and more popular. First seen for just these socially retarded people to hook up, more and more people are seeing the advantages of internet dating. They see the quick and easy way of finding people with simliar interests, testing the water online first. Then going out and meeting them people. As long as it's done in public open places, then it's no different to meeting a random person in a pub, and going on a date. They are just easier to find.

A friend of mine, and my Auntie have both registered to personals sites. They are both around their 30's and don't really go out alot. Dating for them has now become a hobby. I don't even think they do it to find their one true love. It's just about going out (or not as the case maybe) and socialising. They hav between them, met at least 20 guys through this, and they both really enjoy it. People have turned their noses up at this, and embraced the internet stereotype that it is full of freaks and weirdos. That is not the case, as they are finding out. Busy people, with busy lives are finally getting an outlet, and in my opinion, good for them!

I met and dated a couple of girls originating from an internet hookup. It's a little hard to see now... but yes.. I used to be somewhat socially retarded and so were the girls that I went out with. Hence the use of the wondrous internet.

I find the net useful still... but not as a dating tool. Mainly for keeping in contact with friends and tracking down info for work. And JU of course!

I am a total romantic, I admit it. I totally agree that I think everyone has that match! Ahh i'm so realistic. It's funny though, with all this choice, people are less likely to get married, and usually marry later. Could it be, we now have to much choice? To many options, which leads to unrest. Who says we are never satisfied!

I think you have the potential to meet some great people on the internet and some losers too. The problem with the internet compared to meeting in person is that it is much easier for people to misrepresent themselves. Yes, they may eventually be found out but people feel that they have made a connection and then find out that the person they have been talking too is a gross, pervert. As far as internet dating, I think I would definately be more cautious when meeting someone that I only know from the internet. Just definately meet in a public place etc. I saw an Oprah where the guy on the computer would say he was a 14 year old girl and he was the most nasty disgusting sex offender. It gives me creeps just thinking about him. So you have to keep that in the back of your mind that anyone you are talking to could be that guy.

These people exist, but they are more of a danger to children/teens, than adults who use these dating sites. Though you should always be weary, I agree!

I am and have always been a skeptic of internet realtionships, only because I beleive in Physicality, that being said, I still beleive they can work, and whether it is dating or not, the Internet is a great tool for social interaction that should be taken advantage of!!!

I agree totally. The internet is just a tool that is used to make initial contact. It does need to be taken further for relationships to form properly. You can meet all kinds of different people, and it's great for coming across diversity.

Ok, so now I have to show off my geek infested roots and fess up that my fiance and I met online I know, I know... it's so terrible When we met he lived in the midwest and I lived in the coastal south, and had it noit been for this wondrous invention, we would have never chanced across each other. We will have been together in the flesh for two years come December and I couldn't be happier.

I have to admit that I have met frogs and princes both on the internet. As someone before me said, it's similar to going to the pub to meet people, but here you get more of a chance to know the real person first, or in the case of the frogs, meet the person they think you want to meet.

The interent I feel gives you better insights than the real world does, because you get to know people on a different level. I'm glad it's slowly dropping the stigma it had.
