I Love the 80's

How about you?

I love 80's music (It helps that I was born in 70's). I just took an 80's music lyrics quiz over at yetanotherdot.com Link. I scored a 93. Take the quiz and let me know how you did.

I got a 34. I can recall some of the songs but not the lyrics.

I got 70, and almost entered a time warp, Stephen Hawking be damned.

Aauugghh!!!!

I got a 60.5, with 5 points for the referring site, and a 20 point MOM BONUS!!!

OMG! I am still not a mom! I'm not even 30 yet! I will admit, though, that I didn't listen to as much pop music during the 80's--I was a headbanger all the way. Most of the points I actually earned on that quiz were thanks to Bon Jovi, G-N-R, Poison, etc.

Lots of fun anyway....

I had some songs where I could actually sing a chunk of the verse or chorus but my brain would fart out the missing words. I had to turn my tv down in order to get a few.

'Let's do the time warp again!' OK, Rocky Horror wasn't an 80's film, but it was insanely popular during the 80's.

I actually missed the Whitesnake one. I was really pissed when I got to the answers and saw what the answer was!

Thanks to everyone for stopping by!

Well, I grew up in the 80's (I turned 10 in 1980 and graduated HS in 89), so I have that as an advantage. Well, that and a brain cursed with a strong memory of useless trivia and song lyrics...

I got a 43.9 and a big shoe like the one above that says " Dont Push Me". I am absolutely OK with my score. In fact, I am very proud of myself considering I got that many and was born in the 80's. Well, barely, '81.

Who are you kidding Chip?
That F%^&*king quiz was too long and the phrases to short.
When I got to material Girl I said to myself, "Chip is out of his mind."
I did the first 20 with fair success but I'm lazy.

That's all part of the challenge! It takes a 'special' kind of person to complete that quiz... Don't know if 'special' is necessarily a good thing, though...

To quote the NIN song referenced on there: "Bow down before the one you serve, you're going to get what you deserve".

But seriously, I'm just kicking my ass for the ones I missed.

OK, it didn't list my score, which was 105!

You're lookin' at the king of the 80's, baby!

Wow, very nice! What score did you get?

I was feeling the same way! I should have known some of the ones I missed!!!

I got 86.3 -- Question -- Who is the Church Lady??? -- I know I was born before the monica lewinsky thing and after Woodstock -- I have a feeling I was born in between Just Say No and the Church Lady -- but I don't know who the Church Lady IS -- I was born in 1983

Dana Carvey from Saturday Night Live. He played the character for a couple of seasons, I think. Coined the phrases, 'Well, isn't that special?' and 'Hmmm, I don't know, could it have been.....Satan?!?!' The second is more of a paraphrase than a quote. The lead in would change from time to time, but the answer was usually.........Satan?

I actually lost 15 points for forgetting to enter that part...meaning my score coulda been even higher

OH - right - I know him - but only from reruns on Fox8 -- We don't get Saturday Night Live in Australia - unless you have cable - we had our own live variety program - Hey Hey it's Saturday - and Red Symons (Skyhooks) was in it

And just say No was like 1980 or 84 or something -- was that the ad with the Grim Reaper - how many people are you sleeping with when you go to bed with someone .. no wait that was like 1992

Where do I fit in? Dana Carvey was on SNL early 90's -- like Waynes World was what... 1992?

HAHA! I didn't get a point modifier because I was born in the right time frame according to the quiz creator. But I was mad because I missed a single point for not spelling Billie Jean right! I spelled it Billy and the quiz creator dinged me specifically for it!

"Just Say No" was Nancy Reagan's anti-drug campaign from the early to mid-80s. (Can't remember exactly when it began.)

That's the right timeframe. It was Nancy Reagan's thing when Ronald Reagan was President so sometime between 1980-88. But it was an anti-drug campaign, not safe sex. I can't seem to find an exact year for the start of 'Just Say No' (I must not be googling right) but I think it may have been after 83.

I was also born in 1970, so my adjusted score would have been an even more impressive 120

OK, found it! Wouldn't you know, the best place to find the answer to this question was marijuana.com -

*1984 Nancy Reagan's (REPUBLICAN) "Just Say No" Movement begins.
Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" anti-drug campaign becomes a centerpiece of the Reagan administration's anti-drug campaign. The movement focuses on white, middle class children and is funded by corporate and private donations.

I was born in 1970, but I didn't get a bonus. It said I wasn't eligible. Maybe I clicked the wrong box for what I was born between...

For what it's worth, Microsoft Bookshelf '96 claims "Just Say No" began in 1983.

Medicine, 1983

"Just Say No" is the slogan for a new program to combat drug use unveiled by First Lady Nancy Reagan in October. Critics say she has picked up the issue to counter her negative image as a woman of wealth.

I found this through google - September 14 1986

But I was definitely born After Woodstock so I think I chose the right one when I said Church Lady - Dana Carvey was on SNL from 1986-1993 - eh I was just flawed I recognised so many songs and I spelt Chrysler (crysler) wrong so I didn't get that one which was dodgy. And I'm glad they didn't ask for anything after I live on the second floor - cause after I live upstairs from you - I loose the song.
And I'm glad the cranberries were missing cause I like the cranberries but I can't sing them -- and that french song - good thing it wasn't there.

I put DOWN UNDER - not that it mattered but I was proud there was some Australian songs in the list (inxs, rick springfield and men at work)
