Vegas, you funky town you!

Oh Las Vegas.

I've yet to live here a week... but the town is already starting to grow on me.

Though technically I'm not living in Vegas, i'm living in Henderson, which is attatched to Vegas's hip and I can look north and see the Strip only about 3 miles away. Well maybe more than 3 miles away... I've learned that I'm bad at judging distances out here. I was out the first day, and off in the distance I see what I "think" to be a hill... So I comment on how it's odd that they have a hill right near by. My roomate whom I'm with at the time, looks at me in a funny way... gives a kinda gufaw/chuckle and says that it's a mountain and it's a good long ways away...

Not only has my perception of distance gone off kilter, but also my perception of heat. I lived in Indiana for 23 years... then move out to Massachussets for 3 months.. and now am in what I lovingly term "The ass cracked furnace of the US" Though what amazes me... is that it's not the hottest place in the US... supposedly it's even worse in Arizona... though I have no real proof, nor any gumption to go and find out.... (though obvious scientific data shows 'Death Valley" to be the hottest place in the US, I'm just counting populated locals...) Last monday I'd awakened to a nice and pleasant 70.... I end the day at a scolding 110. I think I sweat enough to water a golf course.......

Though by far.. one of the things I'm having a time at getting used to is the driving. Either I have bad luck with the people I'm meeting or just almost everyone in Vegas drives like a complete loon with no idea what a brake pedal is and no idea how to read what I used to think of as a "Speed Limit sign".... Now I'm just under the impression that people decide that those are just suggested speed signs....

I've seen more people out here than I think I've seen most anywhere else except when I was walking the street's in Boston. The Strip (the few times I've been there) can be just PACKED with people at times. And I'm already learning to avoid the "fucking tourist's" even though I feel more like one myself at the moment than a resident.....

I think though, that I might have to leave Vegas soon..... I've been here less than a week, and I'm already $300 ahead on the casino's. What's funny is I started with the $5 i got for free from signing up for some membership thingy with the casino. I figure that I've probably used all my luck by now and should get the hell out of dodge while I'm still ahead!! =)

So much goes on here though that it has my head spinning... I'm having a hard time keeping up.. people everywhere... fried eggs layered on the sidewalks... and no grass except for golf courses and rich locals. No tree's also.. well... what I term as "real" tree's... Pines, Palms, and Joshua trees don't count as real trees.... For an old Country Yokel like me (though I don't like country music... even though I was surrounded by it... or maybe that's why.....) it sucks not having any woods around to look at... or green pastures...

Though... I just stepped outside... and I saw the most beautiful sight. It's pretty dark here as long as I look south... and the sky was just beautiful, stars galore!! I love stargazing... always have been a dreamer. So at least now on a warm Nevada night I can go outside, and gaze at the same stars I gazed at back home. Nice to know that though recently my life's been a rollercoaster of emotion and location, some things will always be there.

Sally: I'm glad I've taken the plunge myself, cut I do miss the lassie She was someone I could depend on to be a good "wingman" per se..... The job hasn't started just yet... I'm having to wait on the boss to get all the financial details straitened out so he's sure he can hire me... though he swears up and down that it'll happen just might have to wait a week or so. Foxy ladies? They are here in droves!! I might drool enough to water a golf course also.....

Citahellion: Lol, well I was was only a Streetwalker for 1 day that I had to snag buses to get to the Airport. Though I did enough walking because I kinda got lost on my way. Beautiful city though, just glad I didn't have to drive it...
