Amercia's Celebrity Obsession

We Really Need A Hobby!!!

I was watching the television today(I usually try to stay away from the damn thing unless something that I like is on because it rots your eyeballs out) and I noticed that there are a lot of shows that are dedicated to inane details of celebrities lives like what brand of toliet paper they use and how much they pay to get hair ripped off their asses. It's insane. The biggest culprits are the networks that are supposed to be about music. You know who they are. I can understand if E! has that kind of crap on, its expected thats why the only time I watch it is to watch Howard Stern. The so called "music television" networks have the most boring programing I have ever come across, just today I saw a show that follows two married celebrities that pretend to be normal but spend more than I make in one year on up-scale chinese take out. I guess it is a big draw though, millions of magazines are sold each month that cater to those of us who get a kick out of seeing pictures of models without their makeup on. I suppose this will go on as long as people still buy the "tell all" magazines and watch these idiotic shows. I know some people really enjoy this stuff but come on. Shut off the tv and play a game with your kids or walk your dog or something. Damn if you added up all the hours of your life that you spend watching this drivel you could probably have earned a degree in quantium physics. All I'm saying is maybe America needs a hobby. Trust me these idiots will be on the tube tomorrow, so do something constructive today!!! You'll be glad you did.

That, and the fact that we tend to treat our celebrities as if their celebrity status gives them extra insight or knowledge. The ability to act/play ball/sing does not make you an expert on middle east affairs (Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, take note).

To true Gideon...It does seem that when a person reaches "celebrity" status they believe them selves a philosopher or anything else they feel like being (ie a vocalist thinking they are an actor, the actor who thinks they can sing, etc)
