New Player Questions

I purchased GalCiv the other day, and have some questions I hope some of you can answer:

1. What does the asterisk next to some of the planet names mean? (some don't have one)
2. When I am in the planet view, my planets automatically seem to be spending bc's on military, social, and research projects even though I have none selected. For instance, when I took over a new colony, I was already spending 6 bc's but I wasn't doing anything on that planet yet. What does this mean? Does that mean I can't get it to spend 0?
3. What happens when you click on planet view for a planet that has a military project going, and then you click on a different option? For example, if I am building a constructor ship, and I look at my planet and click on Colony ship, did I just waste all the time spent building the constructor ship? I've done this numerous times for planets that were building things, and I'm not sure what happens.

1. Where are you seeing that? I can't recall seeing an asterisk anywhere, but it's 2am, so jog my memory. :)

2. No, you can't spend 0. It's a major complaint. See the rather gigantic "Wanted: Best Solution for Wasted Resources Issue" thread for a long discussion about it. Essentially, because the funding allocation sliders are global, a certain percentage of your production on each planet always goes to each area, even if you aren't actually using it.

3. No, so long as don't close the planet window or move on to another planet's screen without clicking back to whatever you were building before. Even then, you may not necessarily lose those resources. The resources for most ships, for instance, are interchangeable. If you're half done a Colony Ship and switch to a Constructor, you'll notice you're already a third done the constructor: the resources that were "used" in the uncompleted colony ship got transferred over, and anytime before you finish that Constructor you could conceivably switch back to the Colony Ship. That doesn't work for all switches, though, so be careful. Most social projects won't do it.

Oh, and Ash, you've seen ships that won't and socials that will? In my experience, military -always- transfers and social -never- transfers over. It's actually rather confusing, and I bugged it.
