Screen goes crazy, plays the music from Invasion.mp3, then locks up the PC.

I am trying to reload a game when this happens. I have autoturn off, so when I get it loaded I press enter and watch as the arceans destroy (I am as war with them) one of my ships and loose another trying, then when the AI's turn looks done (the clock dissappears from the turn button) the screen starts displaying all sorts of psycadelic patterns and the music from the file Invasion.mp3 starts. Alt-tab, C-A-D, nothing works. When the music finishes the screen stops with a blue line at the bottom (about 30-50 pixels high, all across the screen horisontally). At this point I gave up and recycled the PC power. It happened twice in a row, so it is recreatable, at least on my PC.
The debug file has something interesting in it:
============
ASSERT ERROR in file G:\PROJECTS\pear\SOURCE\Canvas.cpp at line 4385.
ASSERT ERROR in file G:\PROJECTS\pear\SOURCE\Canvas.cpp at line 4387.
ASSERT ERROR in file G:\PROJECTS\pear\SOURCE\Canvas.cpp at line 4423.
ASSERT ERROR in file G:\PROJECTS\pear\SOURCE\Canvas.cpp at line 4424.
ASSERT ERROR in file G:\PROJECTS\pear\SOURCE\Canvas.cpp at line 4426.
===============================
These five lines are repeated a huge number of times, and are the last lines in the file.
I have a zipped file of my entire Galciv directory, and a zip file of the saved game. If the debug data is not enough to solve this, then I will send the saved game file.
