Somehow the US Supreme Courts have the disposition that they are the Worlds ultimate authority.

They have decided it is within their rights to allow compensation for events that happened years ago...

We all know American's enjoy wearing their litigation hats, even though they know that particular style is not popular in the rest of the world. Govenrment's will be forced to pay out on past grievences...

Maria Altmann, an Austrian immigrant to the US was the victor in a landmark case ruling that American citizens can sue foreign governments. Should she pravail in her quest, the floodgates of litigation will surely open...

It's not only the governemnts of these countries (every single nation in the whole world) but the people...

Every Austrian is going to be worse off, because the Nazi's stole some paintings 60 years ago... I wonder what other international citizens can sue the US government for?

Many Americans, myself included are growing weary of the idiot rulings by our courts. Somehow, slowly, our courts have been taken over by lunatics and imbiciles who have totally lost touch with both reality and the concept that courts are supposed to enforce and interpret law, not make law.

This is just another fine example of the inexorable break down of the American Court system. Americans can't sue their own government, but they can sue other countries governments? What the hell is that?

It sets a really ugly precedent...

Sorry about saying all Americans like the litigation hat... I am sure no one likes to be sued - the folks around here know all about that... but it's getting out of control - its good that you recognise that.

How does getting money back make it all right? Society places to much value on money... isn't a sorry enough? I know these people went through terrible hardships, but blaming and taking from the next generation only damages future generations...

Old wounds are going to be opened... this is not the way forward

I agree with your point Muggaz but the system has been made this way some of the US's most well meaning left wing lawyers. Our system has been manhandled inorder to supplant the legislative system already i place. I think brad had a recent article to this effect as well.

Foreigners sue Americans all the time for afar as well as the US government. This isn't really news other than the fact it's holocaust related.

Foreigners sue the American government for acts of recent administrations... How anyone can simply write this off in the fashion you have astounds me... Holocaust related, sets the precedent for any past theft commited in a time of war... and we all know soldiers like to plunder. The question I am asking is why the US Supreme court feels it has International sovreignity? Had this decision been made in tha Haigue, I might have a little more respect...
