why can't i get eveything I want especially the folder toolbar

Hello
Every time I get excited about Windowblinds, first with a paid version 4, then I paid 15.00 for version 6, I end up getting so frustrated I unload it and forget it for another 5 months. Since I know my way around XP SP2, but not too detail orientated, I think I should be able to get the settings I want all set perfectly. Every time I try though, I get almost done tweaking this or that with the options available and BOOM! something goes wrong.
For example, this time I tried to load a good skin made from around 2006, or 2005, and when I was almost done ie; changing colors mostly, I came across a "thing" that makes my desktop icons and task bar "turn off". The first time this happened, they didn't come back and I had to do a hard reboot with the button on the front of my 1 year old Presario with tons of ram. After I switched some things off and or switched skins, the same thing happened but the PC came back to life within about 3 seconds (everything reappeared).
What was the problem you ask? I was done tweaking, 99.5% done and was clicking around in a folder to check out how it looked. When I L clicked on the toolbar, like normal, this "disappearing act" reared it's ugly head. I noticed that if I R clicked, I got the normal response. But with the L click, the menus didn't drop down automatically, and instead when clicked, "tools" for example, disappearing-act city! XP SP2 reset the desktop and closed the folder, every time.
Putting both IExplorer.exe(6) and explorer.exe in the "exclude - don't skin this application" tick box DIDN'T FIX the problem!
My question is, Do I have to use certain skins that were created during a certain time frame ie; late 2005 to mid 2007 for example? I suppose I could go back to Windowblinds ver 4.6, but that would waste 15.00 dollars.
What causes this? I made sure I wasn't choosing a Vista only skin.
Could someone please shed light on this problem? I can't find any answers to this problem specifically when I search, don't know what terms to use in the search that would lead me to a discussion on this bug. What guidelines do I need to follow to avoid this little hang-up?
As you can see from this screenshot below, "tools" is highlghted(the curser does not appear in the screenshot, but it's floating over "tools" there none the less), it should have a drop down menu visable. If I ckick it, everything on my desktop, including the taskbar, will disappear and maybe not come back.

thanks in advance
Mark
