Reliving my metal head days...

I'm watching VH1's '100 Greatest Metal Moments'....and I'm feeling very reminiscent.

They had dudes on there that I had almost for gotten about...ACDC, Dokken, GNR. Anthrax, Whitesnake, Metallica, Kiss, Ted Nugent, Motley Crue, slaughter, Warrant, Poison, Def Leppard, The Henry Rollins Band...Motorhead..Lemmy, man, fuckin' Lemmy from Motorhead!  I hadn't seen him in years!!!!

Of course no tall of these could be classed as 'metal' per se; I'd classify a lot of them as 'hair' bands..but they were all on 'The Headbanger's Ball'...wow, there's another memory.  Sitting up, shitfaced on Jack and Coke, watching the Headbanger's ball.

You know, I'm going to name drop a bit here (sorry Smartaz).  Last year some metal bands came to the Stugis rally near here and played..I went to see them...and I got slipped some tongue by Jack Russell!!!!  I got within 3' of Kevin Dubrow...and I had the great misfourtune to meet Don Dokken, who, in case you were wondering, is a prick.  He was complaining about the size and firmness of a woman's breasts, and refused to autograph them like she'd asked him to....yeah, he's a real nice guy. :\

Anyway...I'm going to go watch TV and take a little trip down memory lane.  I've got some Jack Daniels around here somewhere......might have to break that out and relive my metal head youth for a while :)

You had almost forgotten AC/DC???? How COULD you????!!!!!

I'm an old rocker myself. Love that stuff. Remember Twisted Sister?

Here's a trivia question for ya. Do you remember when MTV first went on the air? (No, that isn't the question)

What was the Video that MTV launched with? (The first one they played when they went on the air, for those who have toked a bit too much)

Looking up on the net is cheating folks, dredge it up from memory if you're even a little honest.

Yeah, I do remember Dee...actually he's the one narrating the show!

MTV opened with "Video Killed The Radio Star' by Buggles.  I remember it well....

Wow! dharma I am truly impressed. I have asked that question at parties for years and you're the first person who knew the answer. I bow at your feet.

Thank you, Mason....that dude with the big ass spectacles was in the video, I remember that really well.

Tesla were just on, and they're doing a spot about Judas Priest in a bit.  Remember when those kids shot themselves because of the 'satanic' lyrics in the songs?

Oh, now Lemmy's on.....gotta go!!

That's the one I thought as well, but everytime I have said it I have been shouted down and told that it was Dire Straits. Are you guys 100% absolutely positive? If you're right, which means that I am too, then I have a tonne of people who i have to go and laugh at, only because they laughed at me first!

Hope you're enjoying, dharma.

Yes floozie I am positive on it. I was sitting and watching when MTV launched. I clearly remember how appropriate the video was for launching a music video channel. Dire straights was the second video they played.

Yep. Go tell 'em they were wrong Suz. I'm positive about it as well.

I did enjoy the show, it was really good to remember my younger days.  Now, of course, I'm old and married and I stay home to clean my oven instead of going out and partying. lol.

Ah, the metal days.  I got to go to concerts of Metallica and Ratt/Poison and used to listen to Dokken.  Never was too good at head banging.  Made me too dizzy.  I really liked Metallica a lot and still listen to them every once in a while.  I enjoyed watching a special about them on MTV a few months back.

Isn't it weird that kids now think "Wow, you remember what it was like before MTV?!" and we were saying to our parents "Wow, you remember what it was like before TV?!"
