Just Bought CursorFX? Get Started With Some Great Themes

https://www.wincustomize.com/skins.aspx?libid=25

Ok, so yesterday you picked up a copy of CursorFX and you've played around with the included cursor themes but now you want more.  Did you know that on WinCustomize we have nearly 2,000 Cursor Themes available for free download?  There's definitely no lack of great sets to pick from.  To get you started, I suggest these:

My personal favorite is, without a doubt, Desktop WarBird by Drill'n Boss

I need to plug my favorite cursor, "Ghost Planet" by J. Aroche

The animation is soooo smooth!

But what good are all the great themes if CursorFX crashes when you load over 400 cursors previously downloaded??? The program is great, but why can't I have access to all my cursors without it crashing? CursorXP never crashed with a multitude of cursors. I have uninstalled and reinstalled over a dozen times, cleaned the registry, contacted support, prayed to the God of cursors, and it continues to crash. I don't know if it's my issue or a CursorFX issue? It makes no sense..

Call me ignorant but I can't figure this out. I download cursors from the FX page and they are .CurXPTheme extensions not .CursorFX extension. I had downloaded many cursor themes a month or more ago and extracted them into the FX themes folder. They have the .CursorFX extension, however not one theme shows in the FX control panel but the dozen or so that come with it. I just updated to the newest version today. Still no cursors. Please advise on this. Thanks much.

The issue that I have with CursorFX is that the cursors tend to move across the screen a little choppy at times almost as if there were some program running on my computer eating up all of my resources which is not true. This just doesn't seem acceptable on a laptop with a 2.2GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB of RAM, and a 256MB GeForce 8600M GT video card. I notice that the choppiness tends to happen more when there are more animated parts of a WindowBlinds skin on screen. Or when my computer is processing anything for that matter such as when I'm opening Firefox. I'd love to be using those AEON cursors but the performance seems too lackluster for me. I'm sticking to the default Windows cursors for now.

I've had the resources problem with CursorXP at times as well. If you don't move the cursor - everything is fine. If you move it, the CPU cycles shoot up into the 20's. Normally, no matter how much you move it, it will sit around 3-5 cycles (this is in the ctrl-alt-del process view).

Just fixed not being able to use any other cursors. I had cursorxp installed. Removed it through stardock central, then rebooted. Tried to open a cursorfx theme and was asked what program to open it with, pointed to cursorfx and it downloaded, then asked if I wanted to use it as my cursor. Seems to work fine now.

I had CXP Plus installed & active at the time of the CFX Plus install. The CXP theme I was using is still active

I think the problem people are having is CXP has to be uninstalled (save your themes first) before CFX is installed. I have CFX Plus running on 3 machines (Vista Ultimate,Vista Home Prem and XP Pro)and it runs flawlessly on all three. I dl a theme no matter if it's a .curxptheme or a .cursorfx file and click on the file I get a window that says:

Theme copied into theme common folder:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes

Do you want to make the selected theme the current theme?

ALMonty's fix quoted above seems to be the best solution so far, except you may have to search under All Users, either Application Data/Stardock or under Shared Douments/Stardock to find your cursor library. I don't understand why Stardock's software seems to put things all over the place, and not even the same places on all machines. During installations it gives you no ability to change directories or even a window showing where things are going. I love my SD programs, but these are problems, especially for us newbies. A little more pre-installation documentation would be nice, like a "MustReadMe.txt" file right on the download pages, giving any information about any special installation quirks. I didn't even know about installing programs through SDC when I first bought them.

ps: always re-boot after any of these installations just to be safe.

I'm gonna put a plug in for my aged but kickin' cursor. It was a revolutionary cursor when everyone was still "drawing" cursors. I might have been the first person to use a 3D app to create a cursor. I admit that the animations are not as good as what we're used to seeing today but still worth checking out if you have never seen it before.

X-Wing by me. :)

Doesn't help with my problem #2 above. I have uninstalled CursorXP, cleaned the registry, reinstalled FX, etc, etc. The program still crashes when a lot of cursors are installed, and it is painfully slow loading. Much worse/slower than CursorXP. Support seems aware of the issue, but there doesn't appear to be a solution yet - except to not use more than 50 cursors. Which isn't much of a solution with so many talented people creating great looking cursors.
