A RISING EUROPEAN ARMY
It Will Rise Sooner Than You Think

France, Italy, Germany and Spain recently received the go-ahead from the European Union defense ministers for their most recent military proposal--a plan that calls for individual battle groups comprised of 10,000 soldiers, deployable to any location within 10 days, to be fully functional by 2006.
These military reaction groups are the forerunner to the proposed 150,000 man troops deployable in 15 days--a grand idea formed by the European Defense Ministry.
Soldiers in these groups will be trained for combat in all types of terrain--desert, mountains, jungle, urban, etc.--and will be sent into the world’s most dangerous and inhospitable places. The battle groups will be sent to areas, which might threaten the well being of Europe. Paris, Rome, Berlin, and Madrid anticipate that these groups will be able to deploy quickly when necessary and be sustainable for 90 days, or 180 days with rotation.
This move to form a military organization is evidence that European leaders are thinking of the Union as more than a trade or political federation. It is becoming a global power with the military muscle to back up its interests.
