Backed up my cursor themes, uninstalled both CFXPlus and CXPPlus, restarted, cleared all old folders and shortcuts and restarted again. Reinstalled CXPPlus and put my backed up themes in the themes folder and all is well with the world again. CXP for me, for now. By the way, I'm an XP user until they don't support it anymore, so I guess I really don't need CFX anyway. Nice looking product though.

Doesn't seem to work with CursorFX cursors here, either, I'm afraid. On XPP SP2.

I'm waiting for some direction from SD about the proper method of installation. There is nothing in the install routine (I used SDC, BTW) that prompts you to do anything - it just installs. No information in the History link. No information in the Online Guide that is linked in the About pane of CursorFX Control Panel.

I assumed, correctly as it turned out, that the theme files had been moved to D&S\All Users... and copied all my .curXPtheme files into the new directory. When I launched CFX, they were all there in the list. Only problem is, none of the themes will "Apply" - clicking that button does nothing, the cursor set remains unchanged. I can fiddle with the attributes & they will all get "applied" to the preview, but that's as far as things get.

I had CXP Plus installed & active at the time of the CFX Plus install. The CXP theme I was using is still active - I can toggle between it & the Windows default theme using Ctrl-Shift-C without any problem but I cannot get any other theme to apply, whether .cursorFX or .curXPtheme.

I've been around SD products & loved them for a long, long time. I don't think this app was ready for release, even as a beta, without clear instructions on how to upgrade from CXP.

Looking forward to a release that addresses these issues.

I think the problem people are having is CXP has to be uninstalled (save your themes first) before CFX is installed. I have CFX Plus running on 3 machines (Vista Ultimate,Vista Home Prem and XP Pro)and it runs flawlessly on all three. I dl a theme no matter if it's a .curxptheme or a .cursorfx file and click on the file I get a window that says:

Theme copied into theme common folder:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes

Do you want to make the selected theme the current theme?

i have cursor XP and cursor FX both installed on my computer, i use cursor FX and have no problems running it or any cursor xp theme with it. all i did was open up cursor xp and clicked disable all, went into msconfig and unchecked the box to run cursor xp on startup, then loaded cursor fx applied my cursor and made sure that it was set to run on windows start. everythijng works perfectly.

With apologies to SD, CursorFX is now working normally after a reboot. Each profile I use required a reboot to get it to work. Should have thought of that, I suppose.

Nimbin that's the smart way to have both installed without any conflicts. But as Daiwa stated he had CXP installed and running when he installed CFX. Now that would cause a big conflict. Both programs trying to run at the same time.

I took the time to read What U Guys Suggested. I manually installed The CursorXP to the new directory and it works fine. Thanks Guys

Both Vista machines ask me to reboot but XP didn't ask. I just rebooted anyway.

I have now installed and uninstalled FX 3 times, to be clear it works OK with the cursors that come with it, but for me XP themes have to be dumped into the theme folder and I lost them all in having to uninstall XP.
Zargon0225 says the themes go into %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes
but for me it is in Allusers>shared documents>stardock>cursorFX>themes.....

ALMonty's fix quoted above seems to be the best solution so far, except you may have to search under All Users, either Application Data/Stardock or under Shared Douments/Stardock to find your cursor library. I don't understand why Stardock's software seems to put things all over the place, and not even the same places on all machines. During installations it gives you no ability to change directories or even a window showing where things are going. I love my SD programs, but these are problems, especially for us newbies. A little more pre-installation documentation would be nice, like a "MustReadMe.txt" file right on the download pages, giving any information about any special installation quirks. I didn't even know about installing programs through SDC when I first bought them.

ps: always re-boot after any of these installations just to be safe.

The latest build (2.00.004) now resolves the issue with CursorXP cursors not loading into CursorFX on download or double click.  Thanks for your feedback on this issue.

Just for verification purposes if you are having troubles still with CursorFX please make sure you have updated to the latest 2.04 release AND that you have CXP uninstalled. If you can reproduce an error you are getting please start a ticket with us at [email protected] explaining the error, how to reproduce it, and what your system stats +OS versions are. I will be more than happy to test out each situation and report it up for you.

Seabass, did SD update the free version also?

I just downloaded it and did the uninstall/reboot/ran reg mechanic/reinstall and still have the transpanrency issue I posted here: See Post #70 WWW Link

Also, the free version only says version 2.00 on the about page. I'll post a ticker on support for this transparency issue.

FYI Seabass I just put a ticket in #ODB-355055. Thanks. f

I can confirm also that downloading of cursors in FX has been fixed. I have the plus version and just downloaded a CXP skin and it loaded okay.  :CONGRAT:

So Philly, no problem with CFX in XP when clicking on the border of CFX app, like when dragging the app around to move it? Maybe it's only the free version?

How so? I purchased the plus version. I downloaded a new one. Saved it as CursorFX, hit save, hit apply, no go...?

I wish I could use some of the Special Effects (which I love) in CursorXP in CursorFX.

Casey, confirmed. With free version, I cannot double click any CFX or CXP cursor themes in a folder and get them to work. Must use the CFX interface to get them to work. Not so much a bug for me but a lack of functionality. I'm more concerned with the transparency thing I put a ticket in for. Should we put a ticket in for this one as well?

Just went back and tried moving the CFX Window around by clicking on the frame or border of the app. No problem, so it might be something tied to the free version.

I opened up CFX Plus, click more cursors, clicked the WC link, pick a XP cursor, hit download, selected open. It downloaded and it came up with a window showing a zip file, I double clicked it and it loaded directly into CFX with not problem. I should mention that I use the WC Browser and that I'm on an XP system.

Thanks Phily -
I get all the way to double clicking the zip file and then nothing. I'll try reinstalling FX. I appreciate your help.

I found another thing when using Firefox to download cusors. When I click on a cursor in the gallery, FF has the option to download or open the file with the chosen app (in this case CFX). I previously did this with CXP and it always loaded the cursor in
C:\Program Files\cursorxp\themes and worked.

When downloading and opening any cursor from the gallery in CFX using FF the file is placed in
C\Documents and Settings\"Current User"\Local Settings\Temp which is the wrong directory.

It should be placing the downloaded file in: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\Stardock\CursorFX\Themes

For any Free CFX users out there I'll post a summary and put a ticket up in SD Support for what it's worth. Don't see how a free version has all these issues when the free version is the bait on the hook for reeling in new customers.

In summary there are three problems I have found with the free public version of CFX so far:
1. The App goes transparent when any border is clicked.
2. When using 'open with' option in FF the file is downloaded to the wrong directory
3. All cursor themes (CFX or CXP) cannot be double clicked to run. The CFX app must be used to select the cursor.

No problem CaseySz, be sure you reboot between uninstalling and reinstalling, I know you know that. ;)
