Capital Ships

I've been playing this on single-player for several hours and am hooked!

However, my question to you beta veterans is, "Why bother researching and building labs etc to allow you to create cruisers when you can build a Capital Factory and churn out uber-Captial ships that eat up the little cruisers easily?"

It seems to me a Marza Dreadnought will destroy 6 Kodiak heavy cruisers and can then be fully repaired.

In a big enough game when you have the points to spend, certain cruisers can make great compliments to your cap-ships due to their special abilities. At a certain breakpoint, I just ditch any frigates I have left and replace them with cruisers of the sorts I find most usefull.

There are certainly some cruiser/capship special ability combos that can really put a crimp on your opponents fleets.

It's something you have to experiment with to start seeing the potential.

Because building said uber-capships gets rather painful in terms of cost rather quickly. Not to mention that cruisers often have special abilities that the cap-ships don't. :)

dark you're completely forgetting 2 things there:
1) cap ships get uber-expensive when you consider their need to level up and
2) cruisers are far less prone to being "spiked" by focus fire, so mixing them in with other ships provides a very powerful fleet that can also defend for quite a while

also cruisers tend to have higher DPS than an equivalent number of caps.

you'll see if you try and play with too many capital ships, you'll get eaten up in the mid-late game.
