What do You Consider the "Core Sites" Of the Community?

Over the years, skinning has waxed and waned in popularity.  Sites have sprung up, risen high, crashed and then been reborn from the ashes over the 10+ year history of Windows skinning.  WinCustomize grew out of the fall of Skinz.org back in 2001.  DeviantArt started as a skinning site but has turned into a digital media giant.

Of the skinning sites still around, which do you feel make up the core of the community now?  What are the sites you visit on a daily basis to get the widest selection of skins, wallpapers and icons?

InterfaceLIFT is great for cool looking wallpapers, but it's about the only skinning site I patronize besides here . . .

I pretty Much Only come here anymore, I used to go to other sites, now I can't even remember what they were (and no that's not sarcasm I really can't remember...lol) I love the wincustomize community. It's a great website not just skin-wise but community-wise as well.

I spend most of my skinning time on Wincustomize and try to check out others sites :LOL:  once in a while like, Skinartistry,Skinnalicious, DA, and Tootsie Theme Shop for Walls. That about it... :LOL:

Let me take the question a little further (in a different direction but still tangental to Zoomba's intent) . .
What gaps in WC are the other sites filling?  (Widescreen walls seems to be one thing)
What other sites should WC build a better relationship with so that everyone benefits?

Being as big as WC, if a closer affiliation were formed . . there might be some concern of a slow take-over of contnet.  Dunno . . just wondering.

I generally gravitate between here and Renderosity.com. The two sites combined make for what I believe is the ultimate in quality art and skins. I gave up on DevArt when Scott was backstabbed and gave up on Skinbase with its hypocritical and inconsistent copyright enforcement, its negativity toward growth and its dictatorial attitude to member input. Lying did not help their position either. The sad part is that from my viewpoint Skinbase had an opportunity to really grow and all it is doing is spinning its wheels and stagnating through the attitudes of two people really. It is their site and their choice but I can still have an opinion. I find it sad what has happened to the community over the past five years. Alot of it is about egos and money. :CONGRAT:

Well, lets see here, hmmm...

Adni's site for sure, and MaxStyles.com, and DA, and Belchfire, and skinArtistry, and gee, my site has been around with themes since 2001 in both .msstyles and Windowblinds format, so I hope that counts. :LOL:

Pretty much boils down to WC can't possibly have everything that fancies ones eye. Someone will post a screenshot that will contain a wall...icon or whatever that isn't found here and hopefully provide a link....then its off site we go for a quick shopping trip and then......back home!...WC that is. ;)

You guys should really go to Winmodify.com Practically no one ever comments on the news posts, if you guys go there and post something there, the site will spring up.

I visit this site regularly and i visit DevART just to find themes for my Sony Ericsson P1i phone. ;)

Well said. I do occasionally traverse to sites like avedesk etc. and port Skins I like over to DX or LiteStep,and occasionally find an Icon or wall that suits my needs out there. But mostly find what I need here.. Other than possibly enticing new artists to join WC, I can see no real lacking of the site as a whole.

Learn from? WC set the bar.

At the moment I know of no desktop customization site that has lasted as long or still has as active of a following. sure a few of the old sites are still up,(skinz.org Customize.org )but are mere shells of the glorious sites they once were.

This site's popularity/longevity is a tribute to the WC Administration/SD staffs ability to keep it personal and treat the user base as friends/family, not subordinates/customers. As well as offering a huge variety of skins from many programs.

A good place I like to go is Caedes for Wallpapers.

InterfaceLIFT also is great because I can choose the size that I want.

Even better is Vladstudio which have sizes for my cell phone and nice Tutorials.

The new Customize.org has a nice little feature where when you see something you like, you can search for other items within the same color theme.

A little off topic on things I do miss...Ole greenie DeskMOD, and the various sites that would publish E-Zines, most notably Teknidermy.

I come here exclusivey but not everyday due to personal health issues. This is a nice friendly place where I can find all the things I need or want for all of my computer's wordrobes. I also can read up on all the things going on in the technical world. The tutorials are very informative. The articals are informative and entertaining. This site covers all of the up to date things happening of interest or even the not so well advertised happeneings in computing and other internet topics. There are even instances of caring and concern for each other here in the community. I especially like the way all 4 sites overlap so that even some more personal aspects of members come to the fore. Such a well rounded place! I would not want it any other way!

Nice to touch base with you again onestar! It has been a long time! I cannot disagree with you. You know as much as me more or less about DevArt! It had such potential and it is interesting to note that most of those involved in the takeover are now either banned or have left. :LOL:

Have links to just about every site listed, but come to WC first and spend most of the time here. The best diversity for skinning, forums, and all around generosity of talent for desktop customization, as well as a great community of caring and helpful individuals. I always leave smiling. :)
