I'd love to use it but when I install bootskin on my new HP pavilion( I took Vista off and run XP), it Blue screens on bootup. Could it be clashing with the HP bootup screen?

Good point.  Different versions are incompatible with certain BIOS'.  Your PC may not work with the latest version and it may not work with any version of Bootskin.  I think this is why it's not an officially supported app, support would be a killer.

There are three versions of Bootskin on the link provided.  Try one of the other versions and you may get lucky.  If it fails, you can boot into safe mode and uninstall to get back to normal.

I also got the BSOD on my HP XP Home computer...alot. After I removed the boot screen I have not had any problems since. lol

I agree with Aquamonkey and Croths..

I too have been soooo waiting to be able to use Bootskins....

I won't feel regretful for Upgrading to Vista... I am eagerly awaiting for Bookskins for vista though...


thats actually a major factor in very recently buying Object Desktop.. I am anxious that maybe OD 08 will have a bootscreen editor in it for Vista....



Other than waiting for Bootskin for vista *the LAST customization I Need to do to my vista PC* I am LOVING Stardock and ALL the support and products :D


Keep it up :) I eagerly await the future and look forward to seeing what New and innovative stuff Stardock can bring out :D

Okay I have decided to use a Stardock link to download BootSkins again; as I do miss having them and it is the only thing not skinned on my computer. And there are some very nice skins to download. See yah later.

I moved to XP64 over XP32 and, regretfully, am unable to run bootskins anymore :(

No love if you're not in the mainstream...

An answer to all those who can't use BootSkin, do what I do... press the on switch, then go make a cup of coffee. I haven't seen the boot process in years  ;)

I love bootskins, it's the first type of skinning project that got me hooked on to this site, haven't created any new bootskins in a while but back in the day, I uploaded a few decent bootskins to the wc galleries. Al (Alperium) is basically king of the bootskin section, Al your work is awesome, keep up the great work!!! As for bootskins for vista.... there is a roundabout way to create a bootskin for vista, it's definitely not supported by microsoft (or anyone else for that matter) but people have created working bootskins for vista - there is no app to do this yet, it's a manual & arduous painstaking journey to get a different bootskin installed on your vista machine plus if you happen to make a mistake when "tweaking" your system, you could be left with a vista-sized paper weight on your desk. In a nutshell it's possible to change the vista bootskin but this kind of work is best left to serious power users who don't mind messing with their windows system and having to fix their machines in the event of a failure. Bootskins rock, I check out that gallery every day!!!  :D
