No Ability Bonus with Stolen Techs?

Playing the Thalans with the latest beta, I notice that when I steal a tech while invading I don't get the ability bonus. So no +10 to research and production with Planetary Improvements, no +10 hp for Advanced Materials, etc. At least, the ability bonuses aren't mentioned in the tech description anymore.

I noticed (before the recent patch, haven't gotten to play since) that the icons for the ability bonuses on the tech research screen wouldn't show up when I traded for techs.

However, I'm pretty sure the bonuses were still listed in the right click window and the icons reappeared when I loaded a save after I traded for the techs, but I never did bother to check whether or not I was actually getting the ability bonuses.

Maybe try seeing if the ability bonuses show up on a save after you stole a tech?

I'll mess around with trading/stealing techs when I get a chance, though...

Restarting/reloading doesn't change anything. I notice no soldiering bonuses or pop growth bonuses either with stolen techs -- no icons on the tech tree, nothing in the abililties box in the right click description.

Not being able to get pop growth bonuses really sucks for the Thalans.

Same game, just stole Stellar Marines from the Jagged Knife and this time the soldiering bonus did show up in the tech description.

Update, played last night as the Torians and ability bonuses appear to be working when stealing techs. So it looks like the problem might be specific to the Thalans.

Another update, playing as the Arcaeans and I get the bonuses when I steal race-specific but tradeable techs from the Thalans, so the problem appears to apply only when playing the Thalans.

rls, it would help the developers if you posted what version of GalCiv you are playing, and even better if you sent in a copy of a saved game that you could replicate not getting the techs to work.

He said it was with the latest beta.
The problem seems pretty straightforward; Thalans doesn't get ability bonuses from stolen techs.

A saved game is still a lot more helpful than just saying what's wrong, since it saves the devs the time of reproducing it. If you do have a save where you've stolen a tech and very obviously didn't get the bonus for it (i.e., you have 0 or something in that ability in the civ manager), please zip it and send it to [email protected] with a description of the problem and a link back here.

That game is pretty far along so I think it would be a pain to go through all the techs and see if I was getting the right bonuses. I'll start a new game and if I can reproduce the problem I'll send it in.

Ok, new game. Invaded the Drath and stole Xeno Industrial Theory, the 10% social production bonus did show up in both the tech description and the civ manager. This was one of the techs that was missing both the written description and icon for the bonus in my other game. I'm not sure whether the unlisted bonus was actually applied or not in that game; I didn't check the civ manager at the time and there's no easy way for me to tell at this point. Anyway, I've mailed in the bugged savegame.

In the current game I'll be keeping track of this so if it happens again I'll have more details.

Something else in the latest game(the one in which the stolen Xeno Industrial is working properly). Got the galactic prison UP resolution, planet details screen says it's there but no production bonus shows up. Mailed the savegame.

What about the summary screen?

What about the summary screen?

Which one is that, can you be more specific? If you mean the one in the civ manager, it only shows civ-wide bonuses not planet specific ones. There was no change in the planet's production stats after the UP resolution; the prison has since been switched to another planet after another UP vote, also with no change in my production.

It's one of the two buttons at the bottom of the Planetary Improvements screen. Next to the button that brings up the screen you have screenshot'ed above.

Okay, went back to that save and checked, no production bonus showing up there either. And weird that I've played so many games of GC2 and never even noticed the summary screen :)

It's an easy button to miss. :p
