Death of Benazir Bhutto.

She was one of my heroines.

Benazir Bhutto was assassinated earlier today and the aftermath is likely to unsettle an already volatile Pakistan. This courageous woman, called the Angel Of The East and Champion Of The Poor, was a natural leader who rallied millions of Pakistanis behind her. I have always admired her courage and her determination to unite Pakistan.

I leave any speculation about the perpetrators of her death to Political commentators who are more savvy about the politics in the country than I am, but it is obvious that there are those in the country who fear democracy and the impending powerful return to government of this charismatic lady. She was a very special person.

The subject came up here since it is all over the news.  And it puts a lot of things in perspective with regards to the circus we are having called the Presidential race.  Some of the candidates, notably of the distaff side, are whining alot about how they are being treated.  Yet as one remarked "If we are still hearing her whine, then it cant be as bad as others have it."  (referring to Bhutto).

So true.

It does not take courage to stand in Red Square and criticize the USA.  It takes a lot of courage to stand in Red Square and criticize the USSR. - a cold war cliche.

I can't believe she's gone.

I have no idea if she was as good as her supporters thought her to be or as corrupt as her critics believed, but it is sad to see her taken in such an act. One thing is for sure, though. The fat is in the fire now.
