Okay, so I saw this on YouTube and just had to share it. My grandmother always like to ask us kids this question when we were being stupid...."What the hell is wrong with these kids today????"

I might ask all of you the same thing....

The fact that she is representing South Carolina, makes me hang my head in shame.
It appears our "State Educational Lottery' funds are not being spent wisely. :NOTSURE:

Since when were gov't/semi-gov't funds ever spent wisely??? :NOTSURE:

Seems, however, that instead of buying lottery tickets, SC parents would be better off investing in atlases... history and geography books. ;)

I think the whole thing reflects badly on the US education system. To have so many people unable to point out their own country on a map is almost unbelievable.

As for Miss Teen South Carolina, I think you should seriously think about having her locked away somewhere - anyone that dumb isn't going to be able to survive in the world anyway.

Back when I was at school (UK), between the ages of 9-11, as well as the usual memorising of multiplication tables, we had to learn the capital cities of countries. If you didn't get them right, you didn't go home, simple as that. Another was being able to name and locate seas and oceans.

Later, we would have to learn all UK counties and capitals. Also French Regions and US States. In secondary school geography was a compulsory subject. So you had to learn which countries things like coffee and rubber came from, also what the process was and learn about the social structure of the country.

Of course, that was a long time ago, I have no idea what is being taught today  :NOTSURE:

We have a new way of teaching kids geography in the U.S. now..."Ok Johnny...see this country we're bombing today?...thats called Iraq...next week we'll study a country called Iran". :SURPRISED: ;p

I'm sure it doesn't come as any surprise that these Miss USA, Miss Teen, etc. contests aren't focusing on the intellect of the contestants.

When the object is to be the best Barbie Doll, being dumb as a post is not a detriment.  :NOTSURE:

Personally, I believe beauty contests belong in the past and should be dispensed with.

The world is full of nice looking girls, why do a few need to parade in front of everyone? I just find the whole thing pointless.

Not quite the truth...but... "The President would really love to hear from you if you happen to learn about a country that doesn't do things our way!" ;)

Because there's a shipload of money to be made from beauty pageants.

BTW, I too find beauty contests pointless and believe they are a thing of the past... so it beats me why I keep dreaming about the 'Miss Nude Universe Pageant' :d
